G'day from australia New to separates , feeling my way around, thinking of getting the xpr 5, have klipsch RF 7II (Fronts) which are extremely expensive down here, but got a deal I could not ignore. RF 7II here new cost $6000 aud, picked a pair up ex demo for $ 3000 ,damn lucky... Also have Klipsch F30's (Rear) at this stage, new receiver to be decided on yet ..Will this amp be okay with these speakers, I've read that more juice is better than too little.. Has anyone in AUS got an xpr 5, how did they charge you duties etc ,did they send you invoice or do have to notify customs that you are buying it yourself...Any help welcome, from what I read here you gys are the experts....Thanks Johnno

Hey Johnno, g'day mate. Welcome to the madhouse! The XPR-5 will really make your Klipshs sing at any volume... very loud if you prefer! It'll go well with your speakers. No wuking furries. I know we have a few lounge members in Oz but I'm not sure if any have the XPR-5. Hopefully they can chime in. Where in Oz are you?

G'day, thanks for the reply, I live in the Maitland area in NSW , about 10 mins from town .. Did some research looks like I'm up for around $2400 aud, just have to figure out how I'm charged the duties... Bought a USP 1 a couple of months back , building blocks for me to put together lol... Love my music , next door not so much , but we all have to make sacrifices, eh eh eh.... They should be well pleased for me when I get all my pieces up and running... Johnno

Unless you are gonna play at ear-bleeding levels, you should probably save yer dosh and spring for an XPA-5 instead. Those Klipsch are very efficient and the XPA-5 will drive them to thunderous levels. Take the money saved and invest in top-quality source material. That's a difference that you will really appreciate!!

Thanks RW, decisions, decisions.. I've thought about the xpa 5 and xpa 2 together ,would bass response be the similar, I'll put some more thought into it, I suppose I could always get the xpr at a later time, then I'll have spare amps for my bedroom .. Wow I'm like a kid in a lollie shop eh eh eh... Great to get input from those that know about all this ,it all helps to make the right choice when your overwhelmed with choices, thanks..

Don't get caught up in an equipment buying frenzy. You already have more than enough grunt with the XPA-5. And, if you're looking for best-of-class low-end response, invest your money in a world-class subwoofer like the Velodyne DD or Optimum subs. They are very well-made and have excellent DSP-based control systems.
Emo touted the development and release of some subs that looked, on paper, to be very competitive with the Velodynes for *really* good prices. Alas, they seem to have been forgotten and I haven't heard anything about them in almost 3 years. Come on, Emo, release those Velodyne killers!!!

Forget about it and just go for the XPR-5, that way later when you are like "hmmmm I wonder what the XPR would have been like" you won't have those thoughts lol......damn sometimes I hate this hobby

High gain amplifiers and high efficiency speakers are not a good match as I found the idle hiss to be annoying.
This is based on XPA-1s and Belle Klipsch in 2 channel kit. XPA-5 and RF-83s didn't suffer as much in HT setup; XPA-5 and 3 Belles are good for HT but I switch to my tube setup for 2 channel (the pre/pro just doesn't cut it for stereo).

Creimes, I notice that *you* haven't sprung for an XPR series amp. Is that maybe because you are finding that the UPAs you currently have are doing a fine job for you? It also seems that you cheaped-out and sprang for the XPA-5 instead of the XPR-5 - why is that? Unless MetalDude has unlimited funds available, the XPA-5 will deliver everything he could reasonably want from a power amp...
And, here's a heads-up for ya, if you really want to improve the sound quality of your system, you should seriously consider getting matching speakers for your surround sound setup. This will make a marked improvement in the overall sound quality. And much more so than spending your money on a monster amp...

Thanks RW I'll surely think about your advice.. I have a pair of SW450 subs that seem to give a decent bottom end and blend well into my music (Metal/Hard rock) ,and will I'm sure update as the years pass. Just hard to make choices when inexperienced, and I've been listening to music for 35 years .. What sparked my passion lately was hearing music through a set of paradigms ,far and away better than my Cerwin Vega's at the time, so went shopping ,small budget ,found something I liked in Klipsch and went from there... Thanks for your advice ,I'll think about it for a while..

I have recently returned to a brand new XPA-5 from an XPA-2 and XPA-3 combination and I can't say as I have noticed any difference. That's in stereo or HT, the XPA-5 is one fantastic amp. Being under $1K the XPA-5 slips in without any duty or GST.
If you a lot of stereo listening then you might consider a USP-1, I have one of them, or an XSP-1.
For HT I am currently using a Denon AVR, having recently sold my UMC-1, but shortly I will be changing to a USP-200. I really miss the Emotiva sound.

UPA-1's are sold and as for me getting an XPR-5 the funds are not there heh, and isn't there more to the XPR series then just power......I'm trying to sell my hardtail mountain bike that just doesn't get used to purchase maybe an XPR-2 but prob the XPA-2 and XSP-1 , and I'm not sure what metaldude's budget is......so what is it metaldude....

G'day guys, I can swing the xpr 5, but I'm taking in what is said here because of all your knowledge etc.. I suppose the xpr5 will future proof me somewhat and will have to have an electrician run a circuit, but I also hear RW's advice about xpa's ,so I'm pondering at this time.. One question though, is about the gain on xpa's as against gain on xpr ,correct me if I'm wrong ,is gain on xpr 5 less likely to produce hissing etc ,your thoughts please...

From what I reckon the 29db gain is the better of the two but I've never had any issues with my 32db gain amps other then being too sensitive with the volume control of the USP-1, but like others have said I'm sure XPA-5 would do fine and then put the extra funds to some other gear or source material.

So lets reflect here, I have 2 X RF 7 II Klipsch 2 X F 30 Klipsch 2 X SW 450 Subs Klipsch 1 X USP 1 Emo Will probably get new receiver soon ? as my Denon 891 does not have pre-outs. Which brings up a whole new set of issues eh eh eh ... But will like go with Denon OR Marantz ,or if I can some a little better we'll see ,what do you all suggest for avr....? Thanks guys
Sheez lucky I have to work all night tonight cause sleeping is out of question with all the thoughts now in my head...

This is frustrating and great at the same time , cause normally I would have just bought and see what happened with all the separates stuff, but now I'm able to make a more informed choice I suppose ...Keep talking guys and I'll keep listening as we go , I will hopefully make my mind soon , um won't I, mmmm ,guys won't I...eh eh eh

No need for an electrician Johnno, the recommended 20 amp circuit is for the poor folks in the US who only have 110 volts. We have ~240 volts so 10 amps per power point and 15 amps per circuit is plenty.
