XPR-5 would be $700-$800 in shipping, duty customs fees and taxes You think that's exceptional? My XPR-5: Shipping to Belgium, EU: $251 Duties + VAT: 30% over XPR-5 + shipping Luckily the USD isn't as strong as it used to be. Euro was introduced in 2001 at 1 euro = 1 USD, then it fell to 0,85 USD/euro, rised to 1,47 USD/euro when I bought the XPA-1's, now around 1,28 USD/euro. Duties are just a way for a state to protect their internal market. Just check out the Rare Earth Minerals saga. China dumped theirs on the market, effectively killing off all the American companies in that market. Now China calls the shots and USA has finally woken up. But the expertise has gone, so now what? Protective measures could have prevented the downfall of the Americans in that field. On the same level, I think it is very foolish of the Australians that they've let Chinese companies take over control of parts of the mining industry. If I was PM of Australia, that would have been prevented at all cost, as the forte of Australia is what's stuffed below the surface of it. Sorry for all the OT blatter. Just painting the bigger picture...

Jim, dear boy, did you see the efficiency of his speakers? 95 db, BTW. And, basically, a coupla hunnert watts is more than enough for 95% of the members of this Lounge. -RW- My comment was not with this specific speaker and efficiency. It was with the fact that you make the same recommendation over and over regardless of any other factors. I'll buy you a beer when I hear you recommend it for that 5%.

Just painting the bigger picture... Plus you have a very good REER on the USD Yes I agree, our leaders are very happy to allow the sale of anything and everything to overseas interests, from vast tracts of land (which the Chinese are doing for food security) to leases for mining and mineral exploration. The only political force really opposed to it is "The Greens" who are painted be the major parties as "cookie". Thier vote is slowly on the rise nationally. But like the majors they have both good a bad policies. A "Mineral Resorce Rent Tax" (MRRT) was introduced in 2011, but by the time the Miners had frightened off the government and the price of iron ore had fallen, it had reportedly not raised a single dollar in its first 3 months of operation!!! The Greens propose a soverign weatlh fund funded from mining royalites, which I agree with, as well as a major review into foreign ownership of key assets. As for the duty on amplifiers, I don't think we make enough to warrant a 5% duty to protect them!! Strangely enough I could purchase all of the electronic parts to make it duty free Australians are just waking up to the fact that we pay $$$ more than people in other countries for identical items, so goods are pouring into our country under the $1000 GST limit. Even if we pay GST and duty and shipping by plane, it is still cheaper to purcahse OS. The retailers and buyers are now seeing the sand slip between their toes along with their luxury yachts. The world is changing, markets are changing, protectionism of markets is going to have to change. Although, when it comes to food we have very strong bio-securtiy laws that prevent plant material from entering the country which in my mind is valid protectionism unlike the protective measures enjoyed by US corn farmers who are able to compete and sell at below the cost of production. This kind of protectionism creates massive distortion in internal and international markets and leads to some very unpleasant consequences. Have you seen Food Inc? so I will happliy pay my GST and purchase my audio gear

I think all OS buyers are to be commended. We purchase on faith, pay shipping and taxes that add $500 to the cost of an amp and have no realistic way of returning equipment under the 30 day policy or when things go wrong. How many here would outlay $5k to a company on the other side of the globe without seeing or hearing the product? Luckily emo provided great support and will ship boards when things go wrong, but DIY fixes on equipment isn't for the feint hearted.

richardrc, It's a number of reasons I chose Emo , first cost, then after reasearch on here and elsewhere with most happy with their gear and reading those that love the sound and performance of Emo, a little faith is taken and take the plunge and try...As you know out here things cost double or more to buy, so it's a no brainer in my book... From discussions in lounge Emo are only too happy to assist with issues ,and in my case they were great ,could'nt do enough for me ..I got my Klipsch RF 7II's here in Aus , price at time for the pair was $ 5500, but I got ex demo pair for $ 3500 ,still more than you pay overseas for them..

Lol "a little faith" I checked the companies register as well as Google streetview to help ease my angst! Everything online can be faked, complete with boards like this one. No second chances with western union.
How are you enjoying the masses of power you have on tap. The xpa-5 is a beast in my 5.12 system, I don't want to push its boundaries as it would be at ear bleeding levels. Next for me will be the xmc-1. I wish I had purchased another pair of erd-1s. Perhaps the new reference speakers will be in my future. Seriously considering the xpa-1L when released.

Not sure about that Gary. I have an XPR-5, and at the moment I temporarily plug it into a normal power point. Problem is, when ever I plug something else into the spare double socket, the XPR5 will shut down with the right LED showing red when I switch it back on. I normally have to unplug it wait a minute or so, then plug it back in and it fires up again. But can I say, it drives my Paradigm S8's with ease, running through the XSP-1. Sounds very very good to me! :-)
I am yet to hook up my C-5 Centre and ADP-3 rears to give it a decent work out though.
Cheers Mark
