I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. This is part of the mini line, so it seems like there would be some cost cutting. But you never know. Fingers crossed. I don't mind replacing my USP and XDA if it had better performance. Preamp with DAC and hoping its analog volume. It's only 40 watts per channel with less capacitance than your UPA-2. Is that ok for your Polks and your volume needs? I might recommend that you keep the UPA.

Definitely think the separates would be more useful. I would hope that Emo can find a way to architect them so they aren't as deep as most of the gear. That's a consideration that tons of folks have asked for in the past.

As others have already said, I'd love separates (and I will use my Airmotivs) and a CD player to match...

I think a few people could see that pre sitting in the office with some powered monitors Although for practicality the second one eliminates a lot of cables.

I really like both of them. They are GORGEOUS, great design on both. Especially because the way it's laid out really gives a reason for people to choose not just it as a combo but also to buy each on its own because of the subwoofer outs. Really fantastic. I would choose the separates.
But, I think in a business sense as to what would sell more, I believe it would have to be the all in one exec unit. Though emotiva fans would like separates, I believe this amp specifically fulfills the "reciever" need for an all in one SIMPLE solution. It's easier to get somebody to buy one unit that solves many problems rather than buy two units even if it's at the same price. ;D
Reason I say that is that other than the subwoofer output, people can buy the same items as separates from emo already. Like the mini-x and the xda-2 combined. So I feel the all in one exec unit is perfect for a person looking for a audiophile grade system with the all in one setup and is intimidated by separates. A simple solution that requires no additional steps. Just connect in your usb cable, the speaker cables and GO! Perfect solution for the regular joe. Plus with the pre-outs which are bound to be great quality, it's bound to work great as a separate solution if they ever wanted to ramp it up.
I know it may not be good business sense but it would great if they offered both.

BTW, I really like the idea of the subwoofer outputs. Hopefully they adjust in volume with the volume so they can be easily integrated.

Separates. The L/R output on the AMP-1 is just begging for a second AMP-1.

Would I buy it? If I were in the market for a small system, definitely. To be honest,I don't really have a need for such a system at the moment but I would be very tempted if they were available.
As to which version,I had to think on this a bit as both are very nice, and I can see positives to both versions, but ultimately I voted for the separates.
I think like geebo said, the separates might add some appeal to those who wanted to use the pre with Airmotivs or similar,a separately available amp might pick up some independent sales, and separates just come across as a bit more upscale adding to the appeal,at least for me.
I also agree with geebo about offering a matching CD player if possible.

I just realized both chassis options are a hybrid between the reference and the X-series. Can you spot where they are combined?

I have the perfect spot on a shelf in my office for such a mini-system. I want one. Now.
Honestly, I would prefer the integrated option purely for simplicity. I do however understand why separates would be more popular.
Make both!
*Oh, and a matching baby CD play too, please! ;D

How much would the cost difference be between the two?

The smaller the chassis The better. It would be great if they could make them >10" deep so they could sit on a shelf. Keep them simple, and priced aggressively and they'll sell a ton of these attractive little guys. My office is just adjacent to the room where all my main gear is set up. A mini system like this in my office would compliment it very nicely.

A system like that would annoy my co-workers. So let's get them out ASAP.

I like the singles due to the fact singles are better. and it is more customizeable for each situation. As others said add a cd player or another source .... The all in one unit would be less clutter and the display is awesome. Why not add a cd player to it and be a triple threat exec. You can call it the XXX-1

I was giving more thought to an accompanying CD player. If Emotiva made it a transport-only player (perhaps even omit the analog stage and outputs altogether), it would keep costs down and not cut into the ERC-2 profits too much. With digital outputs only, it would mate perfectly with the PRE-1. It might also give Emotiva more business for those who just want a transport, but cannot afford or justify an ERC-2 for transport duty. Just to clarify my previous post, I absolutely love my ERC-2 / XDA-1 / mini-X combo in my bedroom system. However, it certainly stands out a lot and takes up a fair bit of room. With this new set, I would be able to get a CD player, a pre/pro, and an amp in identical form factor. It would also match my room color theme better, plus it would be more aesthetically pleasing for size. This would be one of the primary reasons I'd buy this set. Oh, this set appears to have less blue lights, so that would be great in a bedroom setup. Even with my ERC-2 and XDA-1 on DIM 1, the couple + the mini-X still light up the room pretty well. If Emotiva decides not to release a companion CD player, the attractiveness does go down a bit since I'd still have to use my ERC-2. I suppose I could place the PRE-1 and AMP-1 side-by-side on top of the ERC-2, although the appearance wouldn't match perfectly. Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud here, but I am thrilled to see these new products being discussed. EDIT: OK, I've got one possible feature to throw out for this product. How about a SLEEP function? For an office or bedroom system, I think the SLEEP option would be quite useful. That's one thing I miss from my old system that the Emotiva components don't offer. It's certainly not a big deal and I'd still buy it even without the feature, but that might be a cool thing to have. For that matter, a WAKE timer might be another useful feature to have, but this is adding more complexity and (possibly) cost. I'm just thinking it might even make it more attractive as a "lifestyle" system.

You could call it the EmoBoseTiva - World's Best Sounding Alarm Clock.

Yes, sleep function, wake function, add a digital clock to the face.... You could call it the EmoBoseTiva - World's Best Sounding Alarm Clock. You'd probably be right about it being the best sounding alarm clock in the world! Trust me, I'm an audio enthusiast at heart and don't mind giving up features for better sound. It was just a thought, but overall, that feature carries less than 5% significance for me. I think I'm going to update my desktop wallpaper with these two beauties. ;D
