I want the set on the left. Oh Yeah Baby!!!! That's horny looking. And please include a matching cdp. I'm gonna go against the grain hear and say that I want an analog/HD tuner. Internet streaming would be awesome as well.

Go away for a week to ski and I come back to this surprise!?! I really like the separates, like "geebo" stated on the first page a cd player to match would be most ideal.

Okay okay, enough with the pleasantries and chit chat... let's hear about the XPR's! ;D I got back yesterday at 5pm and missed the FedEx Ground delivery attempt, so I'm waiting on them to come back today as I wash all my ski clothing and get things put up. It shouldn't be long now!

The Pre-1 is exactly what I'm looking for if it has similar specs as the XDA-2. I need something that can sit on top of my Shuttle xPC and act as a DAC.
How would this compare to the DC-1?

Love the VU meters, both the black and blue. They reminds me of my first amplifier: Akai AM-2600. This amp had a cool feature: a switch to select the sensitivity of the meters. I think you could choose between 3 watt or 80 watt max. When in the 3 watt setting even with low volumes the meters were dancing.

I really think there is a need for 2 dac/pre products here, which I guess leads to separates being the best option. I would still prefer an integrated approach to remove the need for yet another power plug and less heat!
The first product is a very simple dac/pre combination that serves the digital user well. I don't even need analogue inputs! I use my Emotiva LMC-1 for this purpose, with it's built-in amplifier for the 2nd zone powering a pair of speakers on my desk. I'd love a smaller option though.
The second is a more complete unit with CD player and analogue inputs, plus the digital capabilities.
You could even get into a stack of separates in the same family: CD player, DAC/pre, and amp.
One last comment - please put more space between the speaker outputs on the amp.

And a PHONO option too. DAC must be at least 24/196 these days. Too many pages to go through. AKA NAD 390DD without the HDMI

I would still prefer an integrated approach to remove the need for yet another power plug and less heat! I'm not sure about the less heat, but the power plug issue is easy to resolve, have a power outlet (female) on the amp to feed the pre amp. Include a short (ie; just long enough) power cord with any purchase of both the pre and power amps. For the same reason short interconnects would be a must inclusion. This style of product has a high quotient of clever packaging. they need to fit together with the minimum of fuss while occupying the minimum amount of space. The product development start point is external simplicity and space minimisation, so the boards and other internals need to be laid out with that as a primary goal. Of course it has to sound good, that's given for any Emotiva product. Cheers Gary

Another opinion: Keep it simple, keep it affordable.

Meters like on the left unit; CD a must as is 192KHz; USB on the front for easy hook-up of iPod for wife - do you really want her pulling equipment out and poking around back ... okay, I need to reword this...writer's block!

So did Emo do some market research and decide that no one wants balanced connectors? I love balanced connectors. I get a nice warm fuzzy when they click in. I'd even be happy with TRS if XLR requires too much space on the back panel.

I agree, XLR connectors and balanced lines are a benefit in the right situation, I personally wouldn't use TRS as they're less reliable. But the Exec system is about bringing good sound and features in a small footprint at a good price, balanced connections don't really fit into that equation.

If one includes everything in it, then there's less incentive to purchase their more expensive stuff. Though not that I would object!

I thought the idea behind these units was small simple and low cost. Everybody wants all the bells and whistles. If you want everything, go with full size higher cost units.
That being said...I like the VU meters and think single chassis is the way to keep cost down.

Why on earth would you have balanced connections on units that are *designed* to sit within 1 ft. of each other? Geez, I think some of you guys checked your brains at the door when you walked in The Lounge...
