Hi Doug, at least with all that panel it must be easy to mount your speaker about any where? ;D

Yeah, I just zipped in 1 1/4 inch fine threaded sheetrock screws to hold the mounts on the wall. With 6 screw holes in each mount, these babies aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Lots of info here, thanks Doug! You're welcome...I always feel like I am getting a bit windy when putting thoughts of components down, but I am fairly detail-oriented and can't help but include a fair amount of detail. I work in IT and many seminars and so forth I go to I always get the "wow" and not the "how" so I have made it a priority to try to take people completely through a process instead of just telling them what the process accomplished.

Not windy at all. The more detail and info the better for those of us who may still be on the fence.

I was on the fence myself as to whether these would do the job or if I would want the 6.5" models down the road, but the ERM-1/ERD-1 speakers should be plenty for 99% of all users.

Doug, Thanks for all the useful information you've provided regarding the ERMs/ERDs. What do you have the crossover set at, and what steps do you personally use to determine the optimal crossover setting for your room? I purchased 6 ERMs, but unfortunately, I won't be able to listen to them fully until I get the Emotiva 2 sub package. So any knowledge you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Also, when you previously listened to the Emotiva 2 sub package with the ERMs/ERDs, how long did it take to set it up?

Also, when you previously listened to the Emotiva 2 sub package with the ERMs/ERDs, how long did it take to set it up? Hey carl007...welcome to the forum! I set my crossover at 80Hz. I usually like to stay with the THX recomendation in this regard. However, the I really don't think the ERM-1s would have any problems with 60Hz as well...in fact I had them there for a while before I changed them to 80Hz. The main step I take are as follows: 1) I won't go above 80Hz as I can localize the sub 2) I go as low as I can with the crossover until I hear things start to get muddy and lose detail 3) I try to find a good mix of where the sub and speakers blend well and the sub hits hard but doesn't drown out the detail of the other speakers 4) Overall, let my ears tell me what sounds good Once Lonnie handed me the mic that auto calibrates the sub, I'd say it took about 30-45 seconds for it to set itself up. I can't wait for the DRS-1 package to arrive, then my speaker arrangement will be complete.

I went with 5 since I only have an xpa5. The wife just lost her job today so I don't want to spend too much. Good thing she is skilled labor.

That's cool. I actually fired mine up in 5.1 to start before I connected the rears as I had to rewire the rears and it sounded very good in 5.1. I had the surrounds set to L/R dipoles respectively in this case...but you may want to try biopoles as well and see which sounds better.
Sorry to hear about the wife's job.

Thanks , I really don't understand the dipole and bipole or why you would use one over the other. I have never read about it either so that might be a good place to start. I have to figure out where to put everything. Right now I have stands because we sit against the back wall. We could use more room thats for sure. I am afraid of mounting the rears too high and having to turn them way up and sit in a different seat and getting blasted. May just have to leave everything like it is and wait until we move in 10 years to make it nice. I did get an idea from a guy in a nother thread here that built hangers. I was thinking this might be a nice way that I could slant them down and in and place them somewhat as wide as I can in our smallish room.

Doug:
The ERM-1s remind me a great deal of the old M&K monitors (forget the model #) that had slanted fronts. Do the ERM-1s have a slanted face, or sides for that matter? Or is it a standard rectangle?
Thanks!
Adam

Can you actually tell a big difference between 5.1 and 7.1? Major benefits?

Can you actually tell a big difference between 5.1 and 7.1? Major benefits? Sometimes, yes...I think a lot of it depends on the source material and also how well you have placed your speakers. IMO, it does do better putting the action right behind you as opposed to sort of behind you when coming from speakers located on the sides. It also really excels with back to front pans and vice versa.

Hey Doug thanks for taking the close-up shots of the speakers! looks great!!!! No problem. You ever get any coser to getting a projector and screen yet? haha Doug, one thing to learn about me is i never make up my mind....(wait isnt that everyone?) But plans must be put on hold for the moment, since i came back from work to see my g/f with a sad face saying the tv does not work..... So i sent it off to service last night. We will see how that goes. If it gets fixed then great cause i need a center channel and was wanting to get the UMC-1. If it cant then i might have to rethink that idea.
