Quick update. I ordered and installed a 30 foot Monoprice Redmere HDMI cable and replaced the 50 footer and it everything works perfectly. Result Now we know the 7030's repeater is good to 30' at the least

Hi guys, I am trying to set up my PT 7030 today, after watching it sit in the box for more than six months... I am going to try it out in my main system for a few months pending my decision on the XMC-1, which might not be necessary for several months, since, first of all, I only reserved mine in July 2014!
Now I intend to interface the PT-7030 with the XSP-1 ( +DC -1) for 2-channel listening), so the 7030 will power only HT and multichannel music services.... My main question concerns how to set up the bass management in this configuration...
1. I have two subs: the ultra 12 and the X-ref 12, and I understand some "level-matching" would be in order... But what is "level-matching, and what is the simplest way to do it? (I do have an SPL meter, and a calibrated MiniDSP Umik1, and the Behringer Ucontrol (device to which Andrew refers in one of his posts on this thread)
2. Between the 7030 and the xsp-1, to which should I ideally assign the main bass management functionality of the system? The XSP-1 seems more sophisticated in this functionality since it can handle two stereo subs, and if I understand the manual correctly, it can even accommodate the subs for multi-channel purposes through the HT bypass function (I am not very sure about this, so please correct me if I am wrong)...
3. The PT 7030 has two sub outs but it sends out the same mono signal to both, so it is clearly not as sophisticated as the XSP-1.
4. What are the benefits of setting the two subs up in a "stereo," as opposed to dual-mono, configuration, and with the subs I currently have, what would be the best set up? If the answer is "dual mono" as I am inclined to think, would it matter which of the two units (XSP-1 or PT 7030) gets assigned the main bass management duties?
5. So far, I have enjoyed the XSP-1 + DC-1 combo a lot for 2-channel listening, and have never actually heard the PT 7030 before, either in stereo or multichannel mode... I have been wondering, however, whether I can enjoy the same 2-channel sq excellence I have become accustomed to if I were to take the XSP-1 out of the chain entirely and use the 7030 in its place for the two-channel in order to simplify the set up... I guess I shall find the answer out sooner or later if I experiment with the different options, but I would like to learn from the experience of those who have used the XSP-1 and the 7030 before in their systems.
Any helpful related advice would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance.

IMO the 7030 is on par with the USP-1, the XSP-1 may come out on top for 2ch performance, I have my ERC-1 connected to the Balanced Reference input of the 7030 and I enjoy it very much but I have never heard the XSP-1, I did however have the DC-1 and sold it as I didn't find the improvement that greatly above the 7030, I now just use a Schitt Magni DAC for my Mac Mini audio. BTW holy moly you have a lot of gear, must be multiple systems Chad

I have been accumulating the gear over an extended period of time, and I think the acquisition of the XMC-1 would be the final piece of the puzzle, after which I can hopefully enjoy some respite. What you say about the xsp-1 (vs Pt 7030) seems to agree with what I have heard, from Emo tech support and other sources. I'm going to put my USP-1 on the market soon.

It is very strange. My player is Pioneer 140. It can output the bitstream and pcm. The film is Escape plan. I dont hear the sound when Pio is set on beatstream while 7030 reporting dts-hd hi res 48k on screen. If I set the Pio in Pcm I hear the sound and 7030 reported the sound is Multichanel.

May be your hdmi cable isnt handshaking properly vadym ; try activating pl2x dsp with the bitstream to see if that locks on or flick over and back from another input . Strange anyway as gravity has a dts hdma5.1 soundtrack ; hd hr is lossy not lossless.. escape plan is 7.1 dts hdma [at least the US version ]

I have had issues as well with certain movies doing that, I leave my Oppo set to PCM and most of the time I use the 7.1 analog inputs on the 7030 as I really like the SQ that way as well, 7030 or Oppo decoding it makes no difference to me and the multichannel 7.1 input of the 7030 is the straightest and purest path through the 7030.

For anyone experiencing "popping" with powering up or down with the PT-7030, I just read this recent post over on the AVS Forum by a new member: For those of you experiencing "popping" when powering up/down the PT-7030 I have something to try.
Recently my PT-7030 started to pop when turning it on/off. Before this issue started the unit was silent for months. I'm always changing settings around and thought that I needed to start there first (luckily I document my changes). Getting to the point, I noticed that I recently (for no real reason) changed the CEC settings on the PT-7030 to OFF. **Note: Menu --> Video Setup --> CEC Control/CEC Power ***
I turned both of these back to ON and behold! The popping is gone.
I do not use CEC to power/control any of my devices. My guess is that by having these settings ON it takes a bit of time for the unit to check the CEC status which is enough of a delay before triggering the amp that the "pop" is eliminated (on power up). The delay may keep the unit "alive" long enough on shutdown/standby that the amp can fully turn off.
I really don't care what is truly happening. I do care that the "popping" that showed up recently is now gone. As always, your mileage may vary. But it did work for me.
The 7030 thread on AVS can be found here: AVS PT-7030 ThreadI have not personally tried this yet, but plan to in the near future. Have to move a display around to get to the menus on the 7030. If anyone here gives it a try, let us know if it helps. Cheers! Chuck

I bought a 7030 off ebay last week and received it this weekend. I've gotten it hooked up and still have some tweeking to do but it seems to sound pretty good and is easy to set up. Certainly not a lot of bells and whistles.
I am having a problem with getting sound using the analog inputs and this may have already been discussed in this thread. There may be some simple thing I'm not doing so I'll ask the forum before I call Emotiva tomorrow.
I get sound from the unit using HDMI and Optical so I know all the outputs are working fine. I have my TV hooked to analog input #2 and my CD hooked into analog input #1 on the back panel. When I go into the menu and setup the inputs, I have these on #5 and #6 inputs. My problem is there is not way for the 7030 input to designate which set of analog inputs I am using for the TV or CD. At least I can't see where to do that in the setup menu. It just assigns the input as analog. It doesn't give me an option to assing input #1 or #2, etc. to the CD, etc.
My questions is, "how does the 7030 know where my TV or CD is?" I don't get any sound from the unit from either of these analog hookups. Is there something simple I am missing here??

Its been a while since then but from what I remember the Anonlog imputs are set to a certain input. Can't quite remember but something like analog 1 is input 4 or another but it is locked to that input button. Try turning on all inputs and swap between them until you hear sound. Then you will know which inputs match up. My memory of this is vague, so not quite sure on this. ------------------------------------------------------- Actually I just read the manual and this is it " Provide six sets of unbalanced stereo audio inputs, which are assigned to Input 3 through Input 8." So Analog 1 on the back is Input 3, Analog 2 is Input 4, etc.

I think I tried all that and it didn't help. Might have missed something. I'm sure it's a simple fix but no sound out when using the analog inputs on the rear panel. I'll call Emotiva tomorrow if I don't get a fix tonight.

Reference Stereo Input Provides a balanced analog input for connecting a reference quality stereo component to the PT-7030 (typically the balanced analog output of a CD player or high-end BD player). This input is always assigned to Input 1 when used. 2. Tuner Input Provides an unbalanced stereo audio input. (This input is assigned to Input 2 when used, but can be used for any unbalanced analog stereo audio source.) 3. Unbalanced (audio) Inputs (1 - 6) Provide six sets of unbalanced stereo audio inputs, which are assigned to Input 3 through Input 8. These inputs can be used for the audio channels from composite or component video sources, or for inputs from audio-only components. Never mind Chad beat me to it

One thing you need to do in the Input settings menu is choose analog for that input as well. Here is a photo of the OSD, So for Input 3 you would need to choose Analog for the audio of that input and then being Input 3 in the settings you would need the source connected to Input 1 of the Unbalanced Inputs on the back of the 7030 where it has the group of Unbalanced Inputs 1-6
