I just sent my PT-7030 back to Emotiva for repair - the IR receiver failed and the display goes bonkers intermittently!

I do care that the "popping" that showed up recently is now gone. I have not personally tried this yet, but plan to in the near future. Have to move a display around to get to the menus on the 7030. If anyone here gives it a try, let us know if it helps. Chuck Well that explains why I never had a pop thanks Chuck ; heres another reason to switch cec on I found earlier [if you like power off passthrough for the news etc ]

Hey, that's good to know also. I'll have to store it in my memory bank to recall when I get the HT setup.

So I've had my PT7030 for some time now, and I can't believe how good the SQ is. After a year and a half I have still done no room correction work with the peq and it's still sounding perfect. Other than setting speaker distance and trimming db on speakers to my liking, I've done no tuning. My low sub output was corrected some time ago by switching to xlr signal instead of rca and that made a huge difference. Sounds like my sub amp gets 10x the signal voltage it did before. I use a yamaha p4500 for subs and I couldn't be happier right now. My only 2 complaints are still the original ones, the time delay for the "handshake" to take place across HDMI when it's switching codecs, and of course the crappy remote. Really wish these 2 things were rectified for a complete perfect package. I was very near buying the xmc 1, but I really have no need at all. I can't imagine gaining any SQ over what I've already achieved. Never has my system sounded so good. After a year and a half, I'm extremely satisfied. My sherbourn 150 watt 7 ch is proving to be more than adequate as well. Absolutely a home run from sherbourn's last major installment.

I have set all the speaker to small and crossover to 80, but it also have a subwoofer crossover, should I set it to 80? This has been addressed many times in any Emotiva processors, it seems the best is at 120hz, as that is the max LFE that is mixed into movie soundtracks. The subwoofer crossover is strictly for the .1 content the movie mixers add, separate from any other speaker channel, thus you probably would never notice a difference if it was set at 80 or 120. Hope this makes sense. Ben

I have an interesting problem with my PT7030 as it no longer outputs Dolby Digital + or DTS when playing movies from my QNAP HS251 media streamer, or my Oppo blueray player or my STB!! All audio sources are played in DTS xxx Downmix or similar.
What could be causing this?? Do I need to reinstall the last firmware for the unit, not that I have this available.
Any help would be appreciated!

If its receiving a 2ch source you will get those lossy decoders cranks . If you feed it a lossless dts hdma or ddtruehd it should automatically switch to the lossless codecs Make sure the default setting in the input setting isnt on say dolby 3 stereo as that will downmix ; I leave mine on pl2x music as that plays well with the lossless codecs [ no downrezing ] Try switching the oppo's output to lpcm rather than bitstream ; it should read multichannel rather than dts hdma say depending on the bd's track selection . The pt7030 is quite logical with a basic menu compared to some so if no luck ring emo .

Sources: MacMini, Sota Turntable/Souther Amp: Wyred4Sound ST-1000 digital Pre: Emotiva XMC-1 Analog Pre: Music Reference RM-5 (tube) or Emotiva XPS-1 Speakers: Soundlab Aura (modified) Sub:RythmiK F15 H.T. room Emotiva UMC-200 UPA-500 lots of old speakers
Do the people who design remotes actually have to use them? Rows of identical buttons are not a design. They are an admission of incompetence. 1) backlighting is essential for H.T. 2) Mute, volume, and pause should be BIG BUTTONS in contrasting colors. That said, my favorite remote is the Apple TV followed by the Firestick. Both have BIG single buttons positioned naturally under the thumb that start, stop, and pause the thing - and they are very small and light. 3) Big heavy remotes are hateful useless monsters! Better to put these functions on the front panel, or on a dropdown screen menu. 4) Four to six remotes on the chair side table are at best clutter- and at worst - remote control hell. One remote is enough!

Yeah, I bought an XMC-1 . I have a disease. I'm not a well man... It came yesterday, haven't had time to install yet, but I'll do a brief comparative review when I do. Still can't hardly imagine gaining much SQ if any over my beloved sherbourn. But maybe the better DACs of the XMC will prove me wrong. I hope so to justify my purchase, but we'll see. When I heard of the planned price increase to $2500 on May 1st, I thought I just might.

The sherbourn PT 7030 vs. Emotiva XMC. Where to start. Only auditioned my XMC today for about 3 hours after setting up speaker distance and trim levels with a db meter. No EQing done and no Dirac today. I started with an old Sony 300 cd changer connected via RCA to the analog in of the XMC. Now it is my understanding that if connected this way, you use the CD players DAC and it bypasses the DAC in the XMC. Someone confirm my logic here. I wanted to use an optical cable connection for my Sony cd, but it wasn't long enough, so RCA connection will have to do for now until I buy a longer optical cable.
Yeah, so I put in the first CD (classical Mozart) and mind totally effing blown. The analog section of the XMC is nothing short of brilliant, and a significant improvement IMO over the Sherbourn. Quickly evident is the strength of the output signal to my amps. The XMC will push your amps way harder than the 7030, and with the XMC in the chain the limitations of my amp became quickly evident as you can immediately tell when you've run out of headroom. The sherbourn matched better with my pa 7-150 output capability and seemed to hardly ever find the amps limits, not so with the XMC as it is begging for a more powerful amp. All connections are XLR with the exception of my Yamaha CA 610 that is biamped running the horns on my KLF towers is connect via RCA. Same as on my 7030. Analog section is simply by far and away the best I've evr used. By a wide margin. I just wonder how it is with a higher quality CD player or better yet a vinyl setup. I was always quite pleased with the performance of my 7030, but this a new ballpark friends.
Next I demoed some SACD action via my oppo 103 in DSD over HDMI. Dire straits brothers in arms. Very impressive. On my 7030, to get the best sound I connected my 103 via 7.1 analog cables to listen to SACDs and always wished I had a 105. Across HDMI SACDs just weren't quite as good on the 7030. The XMC using the HDMI for SACD sounds better than the 103 using analog cables, but it is a marginally small difference. Still makes me wonder what gains if any could be had with a 105. But it was still awesome. Slight gain, assuming due to the higher quality DAC chips in the XMC vs Oppo 103. So as far as DAC chips go, in my SACD experience.... XMC > oppo 103 > 7030... I suppose the oppo 105 could edge out the XMC in this regard, but I've never demoed in my setup.
so far, very pleased with the XMC and is more of a SQ improvement than I anticipated over the 7030. The real test will be tomorrow when I get to throw a movie in and see what DTS MA is like on XMC. As with SACD playback, DTS MA using the 7030 in multichannel bypass mode, the Oppo produced better results for me than using the 7030 to do the decoding. I anticipate the XMC will trump this as well, but I expext very small gains if any.
The true brawn of the XMC upgrade, so far for me, lies in its analog section. It's so much better than anything else I've ever tried. I've heard $100,000 setups in rich friends homes decked out in all the latest Macintosh gear, and I believe the XMC maybe could run with them. My amplification on the other hand... Not so much.. Someday I need to live up to my screen name, sadly, that day is yet to come. Someday maybe I'll be able to afford to step into some XPR amps, and that, for me and my 100 db / 1 watt sensitive speakers will, in fact, be overkill. Jealous of you LCSeminole.

All that being said, I miss how well my 7030 matched my pa 7-150. As good as that amp is, I kind of think it's better left as a matched set. Any takers? I'll make you a deal!

Probably a good idea to post a feeler with a price you are comfortable with for the set in the Emporium aok. A great paired amp and pre like that should draw some serious interest!
