For the technically clueless, what does the above discussion mean. Will the DC-1 provide better audible SQ than just the ERC-3? I was wondering if outputting Coax or Optical to the DC-1 , then analog out would be a better sound than just using the ERC-3 to output the analog signal. Unless I am mistaken the XdA-1 was an upgrade to the ERC-1 and the XDA-2 was an upgrade to the ERC-2, in the eyes of Emotiva... I am wondering if they still see it that way. We the customers will not know until some units get in the field.

No per Lonnie it is only a single dac chip where the DC-1 is dual

Well, you're both right.
Yes, the ERC-3 uses the same DAC (Analog Devices AD1955) as the DC-1. The main difference is that there are two AD1955 DACs in the DC-1 (running in differential mono mode) and one AD1955 DAC in the ERC-3 (running in differential mode).

Stupid question coming up.
How much weight can be stacked on top of the ERC-3 Gen 2?
The reason I ask is that I was staring at my system yesterday and the only way I can integrate the ERC-3 Gen 2 is if I put my Technics 1200 Mk2 TT along with its wooden plinth on top of the ERC-3. The weight of it all is around 35 lbs I believe. Is this too much weight to be put on the ERC-3? Would I be damaging the ERC-3 Gen 2 badly putting 30+ lbs on top of it? Would I be voiding the warranty by putting a lot of weight on it should the ERC-3 get damaged? I'm trying to find another stand on a budget for my gear but should I not find one I may have to stack the Technics on the ERC-3.
Thanks

Thanks I bet you'll be OK as long as the weight is somewhat distributed (on feet or whatever). The ERC-3 itself is 21 pounds, so it should be durable. Probably an email to sales/support would give you an official answer re: warranty. I'm guessing as long as it can breathe and you don't damage the chassis of the ERC-3 you're fine.

There is no problem, weight wise, by stacking the TT on top of the ERC-3. Just use something to give you about an inch of clearance for ventilation. A couple of years ago another Lounge member asked a similar question and Lonnie responded by saying that all Emotiva components are designed to handle stacking of up to 4 similar size and weight components. I highly recommend that you use something like the Sorbothane feet between the ERC-3 and your turntable. Link below to a sample of what I am talking about available from Amazon and many other merchants. www.amazon.com/Sorbothane-Hemisphere-Non-skid-Adhesive-Durometer/dp/B0042U6ZDU/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t

Hi you guys. Thanks for the advice on the stacking of my Technics on top of the ERC-3 Gen 2 question. I'm going to speak to Emotiva if I'm voiding the warranty by stacking something heavy on it just to be sure. To the suggestions about ventilation of the ERC-3 when my TT is stacked on it. The current feet I have under it now are these from Audio Technica. I'll make sure the feet are spaced properly. I think they will be enough to let the ERC-3 breathe but I may get the sorbothane. I may also use these anti vibration feet made for washers and dryers underneath the ERC-3 as well. I got them at Lowes and couldn't use them under either of my washer or dryer so maybe they will be good for audio usage. Thanks again everyone.

Those Audio Technica feet should work very well for providing the ventilation to the ERC-3. I am just not too sure about the anti-vibration they offer compared with the Sorbothane feet. I assume you would like the vibration fighting properties for your TT. I don't think I would use the "washer/dryer" feet under the ERC-3 if you would be doing for anti-vibration purposes. They would be too stiff to be useful for vibration usage in your audio rack.

That is exactly what I have done, and I have the benefits of the DC-1 ( duel Chip dac) and the added benefits of the Oppo 103. an honest answer from sales was if you have my gear there would not be a benefit to purchasing the ERC-3. im saving for " The Next Big Thing " from Emotiva! Weather it's the TT or Tube amp or something out of left field. Or some other things to improve what I have already. That said, if I needed a great stand alone CD player I would not hesitate to give the ERC-3 a test run. Peace, Nick

WoW,looks like the ERC-3 already sold out! If that's the case..... I won't be buying it for a while. That presale price was a motivator. I hope there is still some kind of sale price left. Darn
