My guess would be a small wattage amp to see how things go and that a larger version would be under development at the time. That's logical. However I think emotiva is known for big power. No need to change that now. ...

My prediction: whatever they come up with will cost less through Emotiva than it would have through Carver's company. Oh, and unfortunately I don't expect the eventual tube preamp will include Sonic Holography.

Black Magic 20- $2500 , so I'd be hoping for more than half off personally, only really so I could consider buying it. Yep me too. Again see my above post concerning the Rogue Audio Atlas Magnum Power Amplifier. 100W per channel, stereo, built in America, and about $2000. I'd think Emotiva could best that! If not, it'll probably be my next power amp! ...

Awesome for the "low power freaks", but a KT-88 or KT-120 design would be more main-stream. Agreed. Right now this would be the tube power amp with KT-120's that I'd sell my Red Dragons for if I were not waiting to upgrade my pre first: Nice and exactly what I'm saying Emotiva should build something like. At 100W/ch and a $1995 price tag, this looks like a a winner. One odd note in looking at this amp: Usually the output transformers are mounted on either side of the power transformer with the power transformer rotated 90 degrees. The rotation prevents mutual inductance of the power transformer into the output transformers and the distance between the output transformers prevent crosstalk for the same reasons. SEE: ST70 Clone for an example Here the output transformers are right side/side? ?

I'd think Emotiva could beat this with internet direct and economies of scale. They show that it can be done and Emo could even do better, 100 watts would be a nice target, no less than 50 (my Dyna Mark III's used to drive a lot of different speakers to a decent level).

SEE: ST70 Clone for an example Here the output transformers are right side/side? ? I'm certain the designers tested this setup and decided that any effect of one output transformer on the other that might exist is negligible. Note that they do appear to be 90-degrees rotated from the power transformer, which will minimize 60-Hz induction into the output.

I don't see any crosstalk spec on their web page, so maybe yes, maybe no! Having never seen or heard this amp I'm only speculating, but I've never seen output transformers placed like this.

This from Brent Butterworth of Sound&Vision reporting from THE show:
"The XPA-1L is an unusual amp built to appeal to audiophiles and home theater buffs. For the home theater crowd, this monoblock amp puts out 250 watts into 8 ohms and 500 watts into 4 ohms. That's in Class AB model. In Class A mode, which audiophiles tend to prefer, it puts out 30 watts. It also has a "smart" Class A mode in which it switches to Class AB mode if the amp gets too hot, then switches back to Class A after the danger has passed. The amps run $699 each. Emotiva also showed its version of the Black Beauty 305 all-tube amplifier, which it licensed from amp legend Bob Carver. No price yet, but the plan is to sell it for significantly less because of Emotiva's more efficient manufacturing. It'll still be built by hand, though."

Alright Keith, stop teasing us. Having fun with tube amps is serious business. Hey could you make a pic of a usp-1 with tubes coming out the top?

I guess I have to take that back after looking at one of the Carver amps But, notice the magnetic shielding around all the xformers!

That's <ahem> six hundred watts of tube power (!!) in a stereo setup.

I've followed Bob for a long time.
He was hand building amps and selling them on ebay a few years back.
He hand wound the transformers on old cores that he had.
I think the unit above was something like 1.1K Watts and some insane price tag like $25K.
I just love the picture with Bob and his baby!
Dan needs to get a similar hat and we need a picture of them together!
