Nothing new here really. It’s widely known they begged, borrowed, and even stole. Dazed & Confused, White Summer / Black Mountain Side, and a few more are blatant rips. There are several others they have gotten dinged on before like Whole Lotta Love. I have a complete list at home that shows there are many.

Just to be clear, your line in your post is wrong. They have not admitted to “stealing from Taurus” directly. They have admitted to using other’s music, but not Taurus. Your headline statement is false and misleading. Just saying. Maybe you work for the Enquirer?

This case has been in the works for some time now and has been full of bizarre events. Do some Google searching and you will find many many posts about it. I particularly like how Randy California never made a case of it himself, yet after he’s dead, other’s are. What really gives them the right more than Randy? And what about some sort of statute of limitation? 45 years later? This is strictly a money grab opportunity made by people who really have zero business doing it. But those are just my feelings, not legal arguments.

The big problem with this particular lawsuit is that there are other songs that sound like it too, that predate Spirit. Who’s to say Jimmy didn’t get it from these songs? Or that even Spirit lifted it themselves? And if you talk to true musicians about it, it’s a very common scale used in many pieces of music. It has a fancy name that I don’t recall at the moment. There is most certainly reasonable doubt that can be easily shown. Reasonable doubt means not guilty in this case. It should be tossed.

Robert Plant on Austin City Limits

Robert Plant recorded his sessions with the Sensational Space Shifters back in March, but it just aired officially this weekend. The official ACL site isn’t showing the entire episode (YET, but probably will by next week), but on the page you can find a video of one of my favorites, In The Mood, done southern style, and I like it as usual. Check out your local PBS listings for when it might air again in your area.

Robert actually recorded over 2 nights (Moody Theater, Austin TX, March 20 and 21, 2016) and so I think the official ACL release might be a mix of the 2. The two nights performances do have noticeable differences even though the sets are basically identical. Here is a lower rez color muted youtube video from March 21 that’s not the entire show, but does show different things not included on the official video. It’s missing the first 3 songs and some Plantations, but does show Spoonful, Fixin’ To Die, the second version of Rainbow with some great Plantations and a complete restart, Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down / In My time Of Dying and Rock And Roll, not included in the official broadcast.
