Here's a better pic, those amps were what opened me up to the world of separates and real power from my crappy lame Yamaha receiver

There are +'s to them IMO, it wasn't night and day differences but I really enjoyed the UPA-1's so I'm pumped for the XPA-1L's that's for sure lol, I think for me they really were special as they were my first purchase into separates, but they do kick ass Chad

Bmoney, what are your thoughts on the DC-1 straight into the XPA-5, does it differ from having the USP-1 in the mix...?

Bmoney, what are your thoughts on the DC-1 straight into the XPA-5, does it differ from having the USP-1 in the mix...? i find it to be much more dynamic, and much better dispersion of instruments across the sound stage (it really does make older non high quality mp3's sound better and more crisp)...now I cant give a true comparison since i am not able to quickly AB them, but I am quite pleased as we stand. the ONLY drawback is having to switch the volume when going from HT to music..but thats a small one for great sound and removing a component.

I also upgraded from UPA-1's to 1L's. The difference was instantly noticeable. Wider and deeper soundstage, more clear mids(less chesty, less muffled), and a bit warmer on the treble(less fatiguing in my setup). I also have a UPA-2 and have had the UPA-200. All 3 of the UPA amps that I had sounded the same to me, including the UPA-1's. As you can see I'm not too good at describing sound in words, but coming from a guy who heard no difference between a UPA-2/200 and a pair of UPA-1's I think that's gotta be worth something...
Some more things to note: switching from RCA hookup to fully balanced using the XDA-2 as a preamp the hiss from my tweeters are a bit lower. This was a moot point since it was inaudible from my listening position to begin with. As far as Class A vs AB on the 1L, I can't hear a difference between high vs low bias. The pair pull ~3.x amps in class A according to my PF60. I flip em to Class A for music and AB for movies and TV.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using proboards

Any other thoughts on which direction I should go? Can you temporarily afford a pair of XPA-1L's and the XSP-1 and just send back whichever makes the least amount of difference...?

Room treatments ahd speaker positioning. The new gear isn't going to benefit you as much as those things. Plus they cost a whole lot less. BTW, I'm really sorry to hear about your office setup
