Well done Lonnie. As I said before, your passion drives you. It is so apparent in your demeanor, even your subtle mannerisms imply your absolute faith in your creation. It is obvious that you are a force to be reckoned with in this industry.
Andrew, this production represents a quantum leap forward in advertising for Emotiva. This honest, straightforward approach will speak volumes to your client base. I hope that the company recognizes the value you continue to add to the brand.
Outstanding work, all the way around.

Ok, quick question. Is my Oppo 103 now obsolete for playing CD s? The " Want Monster " is after me! HELP ME SAY? Nick Hi Nick, been playing around with the idea of upgrading to an Oppo 103 or 105 for a while now. I've been lucky in that I have been able to borrow them on and off for a couple of months. I already have a pretty good Panasonic BD player and I haven't really noticed any great video upgrade with the Oppos. Nor does the 103 sound noticeably better for movies or music. The 105 is a bit better for stereo music, no surprise there, but not such a great amount that I need to spend the $A1400 (inc region free upgrade) it would cost. I did also consider a used Denon CD/SACD player ($A1500 new) that was available for $500 as recently as yesterday. So timing wise the ERC-3 is spot on and it fits my requirements for upgrading stereo sound from CD's rather well at a much more reasonable cost. That's my logic (justification) anyway. Cheers Gary

Hi Gary, I also have a Samsung DB 6500 3D blue ray player with analog out as well as HDMI out. Best of both worlds, retailed for $249.00 I think. Anyway, it has a dang good DAC believe it or not and the difference in the DAC in the Oppo and Samsung is not all that much that I can tell from memory. Who is going to do all of these A/B comparisons?they need to be done side by side.. I have no such rationale about the new ERC 3, it's just the want Monster so I could do another side by side.
Peace,
Nick

One to the AVR and the other dedicated to the TV. read the instructions carefully, the Oppo picture done rite is incredible! Nick

I'm buying CD Changer soon ,I like to play my disc's and will probably buy this too, cause the price is good and will be a quality bit of gear.. Oh I'm doomed to have am empty wallet once again, and yet I'm smiling about it, is it a sickness, or am I just needing a holiday in a rubber room for a while.. I keep giving my money to Emotiva and find myself thanking them for it , it's an addiction I tell ya .. Metaldude

All I've got to say is, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. What an outstanding job to everyone involved. It's stuff like this that makes me proud to support Emotiva. Andrew: first and foremost, this is a fantastic production video (I saw the trailer, too). This is your element and you're really doing a great job here--much appreciated! You're a class act, sir. Nick M: I look forward to the day when I can meet you in person. You're the one behind the scenes in most cases, but so much of your time and expertise determines the final result that customers see. You've got amazing creative abilities. Thank you! Lonnie: what can I say? Your obvious dedication, passion, and confidence in your designs is truly inspiring. You've helped to make my dream of owning high-quality audio gear a concrete reality. I owe you a drink and dinner of your choice. I'm sure there were other folks involved with this production, so I want to say a huge thank you to all of them. You folks are part of something truly special. One day I hope to attend Emofest so I can meet everyone who brings a smile to my face every time I listen to music or watch a movie.

Now that the accolades have been showered, let me just say that the ERC-3 looks awesome! I had reservations from an earlier photo (probably captured from a phone), but this new look is pretty slick. I'm glad to see the promotional videos on the product page and was going to recommend that. Also, I skimmed the manual and it's very well written. It actually sounds like a real person wrote it! And would you get a look at that AP report?! Wow! I think Emotiva's claims about the ERC-3 being spectacular are pretty well justified. There are a few things I don't understand, but the majority of it is A-OK! But the real surprise is the price. I mean, come on. It just doesn't get any better than that. I expected a bigger bump from the ERC-2 price for a few reasons. I'd love to own this beauty, but I have other things to purchase first. My ERC-2 is doing a fine job. Maybe in a year or two...

DR, what have you see, if anything , that could make you think that this new ERC-3 will sound better then an Oppo 103 by itself or running through the DC-1? just looking for info, my tech education isn't all that yet, but I'm learning. Thanks Nick

novisnick, I don't have enough information yet to give you completely accurate information. But if prodded, I think the BDP-103 >>> DC-1 combination might be (audibly) nearly identical to playback on an ERC-3 only. Now, there may be some measurable differences between the BDP-103 >>> DC-1 setup and the ERC-3, but it's possible you couldn't hear them. I think you'd have a better chance of discerning audible differences between the ERC-3 and BDP-103 by using the analog outputs from each player. Remember that the OPPO is primarily focused on multichannel playback (even the Cirrus Logic DAC is an 8-channel 24/192 chip), whereas the ERC-3 is completely focused on 2-channel playback. Everything in the ERC-3 is optimized for the highest-quality stereo reproduction. For example, the ERC-3 might have better isolation between compartments (although the BDP-103 isn't shabby here), higher quality parts throughout, and tighter tolerances from top to bottom. The ERC-3's loading mechanism, laser system, and optical receiver may very well be more advanced and technically superior to the BDP-103's system. So could it measure better than the BDP-103? Very likely, but will it be audible? Well, that depends on a lot of things... And finally, absolute sound quality may not take first priority for some folks. For example, if one requires SACD playback, the ERC-3 will still not meet their needs. It's "CD" only. The OPPO would be a better value considering all the features and capabilities. You do have the DC-1, so anything you run through the DAC will sound incredible. But maybe you want a dedicated CD player and would keep the OPPO for multichannel formats only. In that case, I'd be sure to use the ERC-3's balanced XLR outputs and plug 'em into your XSP-1. That's all I have for ya right now.

So let me get this straight. For $50 less I get a DC-1 DAC, except that it's limited to its own internal audiophile quality transport. After the sale it will be $200 less.
Which brings up two questions.
1) Is there really any significant difference in the sound quality between these two devices? (DC-1, ERC-3)
2) Do I really need a DAC for any other source than my transport?

Nick Hi Nick, ultimately the picture quality is determined by the panel, much like audio and speakers. So perhaps I'm not seeing much difference because the Panasonic is quite capable of supplying the 40" Sony LCD with sufficient quality to produce its best. So the (perhaps) superior Oppo video supply is wasted. On my uncle's 65" panel (the owner of the 105) the Oppo certainly is impressive. BTW I've tried all of the recommended (and some not so recommended) connections, direct and indirect and several HDMI cables. Ultimately the connection has to go through my UMC-200 as I use it to switch inputs. Cheers Gary

This video was great. Good job Andrew! (And Lonnie). Do this kind of production with the rest of your products and watch sales go up up. Nice work

So we have Gen2 amps and a Gen2 player. (really like the new look) Where is the Gen2 preamp to match? ...and Gen2 full range speakers to round off the whole Reference Gen2 2ch experience. You can call it the RG 2 system and sell it for Xmas.

Cheers Gary In your last sentence you state" Ultimately the connection has to go through my UMC-200 as I use it to switch inputs." only audio must go through the UMC-200, the video goes directly to the TV and you will need to switch input on that TV for optimal picture. My two cents but it's worth the effort. Nick
