This was the video that started it all for me. A classic now.
Great job Andrew and the Emotiva team on the ERC-3 Gen 2 video. I liked it a lot. I also too wondered like Dyohn and others why the B&W speakers were there in the video. I'm sad that the slot loading CD mechanism is gone but the majority has spoken. I wonder why the CD tray is off to the side? A lot of players often have the CD tray in the middle. I guess Emotiva is trying to differentiate itself physically in other ways?
I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate the ERC-3 Gen 2 into any of my systems. It really looks like a quality player that must sound awesome.

The reason the loader is off to one side is due to form following function. In order to get the power supply in the chassis and keep it isolated from the other sections, the only logical location for the loader was off to one side. Which actually worked out really well, because it allowed me to move the VFD over near the power supply and away from the digital and analog audio sections. So the layout of each section was fundamentally guided by its function and its proximity to the other parts. Since I was starting with a clean slate, I took a long hard look at each and every part. Each sub section had to be laid out based on performance and function considerations and once we had each sub section designed, the layout became obvious. Lonnie

Yep a professional job from all! I loved this video. Lonnie said it right about music. Stream sure, but CD playback is still special. Everyone should be able to have an ERC-3 to find out okay!?

" The reason the loader is off to one side is due to form following function." I'm sort of disappointed, being that some Emo customers are right-handed and others are left-handed, that Emo doesn't have two models. ERC-3R ERC-3L

The amount of left handers that suffer from this right handed bias in CD trays has distressed me for some time. However, you got the labelling wrong. The ERC-3 R needs to be named the ERC-3 L as that's the Lonnie edition. And the ERC-3 L left hander can stay as the ERC-3 L no problem so people can know what is the one for left hander's. Then you can have the ERC-3 L the way Lonnie intended and, the ERC-3 L for those lefties. Nice well differentiated solution.

But that runs the risk of spilling one's cocktail!

That's what the ERC-2 was for with the slot loader in the center. I already own one. That was easy!

Hi Chuckie. You got me smiling big time this very cold morning. ERC-3L and ERC-3R. I love it. Also Thank You Lonnie for taking the time out to reply to my question. Very nice of you indeed to reply in such detail. An Gen 2 ERC-3 R it will be for me as soon as I can figure out what system to integrate it into.

ERC-3R ERC-3L I notice the characters/digits in the display are backwards in the 3L version. Is this going to be fixed by a firmware update?

No doubt, while on sale @ $449, the ERC-3 appears as Emotiva's very best CD player manufactured to date-- with SACD capability to boot.
It has been reported that the ERC-3 incorporates the analog stage adopted from the Emotiva Pro DC-1 DAC, currently on sale for about 50 bucks more @ $499.
I have absolutely no doubt the ERC-3 sounds wonderful. How? I owned the Emotiva Pro DC-1 DAC and I am very pleased with it.
Since I own the DC-1, I unfortunately have no current need for another new CD player-- especially since my DC-1 DAC has the same analog stage.
In the future, if Emotiva ever manufactures a no holds barred C/D transport (without any analog stage) @ $449, that would most likely be my last CD player for purchase.

The hardware is ready for the toasting feature. They are still working on a FW update that enables the laser to overclock to the needed speed for toasting to darker levels...right now, it only works to slightly warm and slightly brown the toast. More development to do...

SACD support is only the CD layer of Hybrid SACD disks... According to what I have seen. Just to be clear.
