CEO's specifically DON'T want their photos in my reports - I list the hazards of the process that the company needs to fix to avoid fires, explosions, & releases...

As kind of an aside? Boom, when you spend a good sum on a complicated tool such as a color laser, do you ALSO purchase any 'extended' protection or do you rely on it breaking sooner than later?
Avoid fires, explosions and releases?
You'd have had a field day where I worked for years. More toxic gasses than I could count. Toxic chems. And compressed Diborane and Phosphene AND Arsine gasses. Just spelling them makes sme itch. Many proprietary chems used for etching silicon as well as stuff like Silane (pyrophoric)and simple asphyxiants like nitrogen and argon. Hydrogen was a plumbed gas! My Hypox machine used oxygen at 1800PSI. That same machine? RAN at 20 atmospheres at over 800c and with STEAM from deionized water.
Our REALLY bad wet chems were in double containment. The OUTER pipe was just air. the inner pipe carried the chemical to be wary of. HF was a particular concern.
We had OUTSIDE people do some work...like when we needed to 'cut in' a new line for a new tool. They were REQUIRED to sit thru a safety orientation. And of course, one of these guys cut THRU an HF line. He doused himself and downed the plant for about a month. He was in the Hospital for at least 6 months or longer. Destroyed lungs (he inhaled BAD fumes) as well as bone damage from the HF which eats Calcium........ The cut in the pipe? BETWEEN 2 stickers warning of HF which were about a meter apart.......
Semiconductor manufacture is NOT for the faint of heart.....

or the dumb? No - I normally don't buy extended protection. I assume the standard bathtub curve of reliabilities. Any initial failures are most likely to happen during the manufacturer's warranty period. After that, the device usually runs very reliably until the wear out phase. "Extended protection" typically covers only the "very reliably" part of the product lifespan and the cost to benefit ratio is heavily against the consumer. Should I be one of the unfortunate few who actually has a failure in the middle of the service life, then I can afford that risk. I only insure things that I can't really afford to lose (house, maybe), things that I'm required by law to have insurance for (auto liability), and odds that are heavily in my favor (can't think of any of these). For the same reasons, you'll never see my face darkening a casino, sports betting facility, or any other lottery-style operation. Even though the stakes are low, the probability of loss is almost 1.0. I might as well give my dollar to a bum and let him buy tobacco, alcohol, or drugs with it. I'd be equally likely for the bum to turn out a multi-millionaire who wanted to give me a fortune. Fortune does occasionally favor the foolish, though. I bought a Breitling Colt at an estate sale today for $400:

Right you are about what we called 'infant mortality'. In a semiconductor facility? We had implanters. VERY complex machines and a period of time from assembly (they come as a giant 'kit') to mature. Our company would always get the factory guy who both fixed AND taught our guys. At the same time? Specifications were in the works to cover operations.....and another document for the Fix-It guys.... We became self-sustaining in many equipement sets at a very rapid rate. Implant? sure. Diffusion? Photolithography? Etch? Metalization? All had learning curves with in some cases the ability to hire an experienced hand to fix or engineer certain equipment.
Who made the movement for your Breitling? VERY nice 'dress' divers watch. Not at all like my Seiko Orange Monster.....You should be in JAIL for paying only 400$ for that piece.....

At the time this watch was made, Breitling (I think) made their own movements. Any more, they probably use ETA movements like all the other "Swiss watch makers," but I honestly don't know. I've never cared much for Breitling despite their quality and reputation. It's their busy styling that puts me off. I like simple watches.

I like a simple style, too.....but would buy a blue dial. I'm not a watch collector type. I wear the ONE I own. A gift bought overseas. The DAY part of the day/date is in Arabic or English. Seiko 'Orange Monster' by name. A little prettier than the Tuna Can model...... If I were RICH? I'd buy a Grand Seiko. Llink is to the dive watch in that line. But the Dress watches? WOW! www.grand-seiko.com/us-en/collections/slga001gNot even Omega draws me like the GS...... I think ROLEX might be one of the last to make their own movements?

Had the pleasure today of finishing my evaluation of 25 fertilizer manufacturers, world wide, for the annual Green Leaf safety, health, & environmental award. The contest is held by the International Fertilizer Association in Paris, France. It's quite informative to see how plants in places as diverse as Israel, Russia, India, Indonesia, Egypt, Poland, Jordan, Belarus, Pakistan, Spain, Portugal, France, and Qatar treat their EHS programs and their employees. Some of these programs, despite being quite different than what we're used to seeing in North America, seem to be highly effective. I think I might get a future magazine article out of the contest that compares & contrasts programs elsewhere to those here.

I looked at a watch which is ALL somebody 'elses' movements. Deep Blue or some such. All real Glitzy for my taste but reasonably priced for all that. Problem? The Churn whereby a model lasts a couple months than is replaced. They use ETA and even a Seiko movement or so....... And I think some others..... www.deepbluewatches.com/The TAG in your pic? NICE.....Plain but elegant......A very 'rich' shade of blue. www.omegawatches.com/en-us/suggestions/omega-mens-watches?watch_dial=3171Link to Blue Dial Omega. Many candidates here for the more 'well to do'....... I like AT LEAST a 100 meter water resistance. This ensures that the watch is GOOD in any normal conditions and even in the pool......But NOT diving. The 200 meter version I wear? Light diving to I guess 20 meters would be fine....

For water resistance, I always look for a screw-in back and a screw-in crown. Solid stainless case & sapphire crystal are also nice. I actually prefer quartz movements to automatics - but absolutely no Seiko Kinetics or Citizen Eco-Drives. They're a PITA.

I LOOKED at the Seiko Kinetics. But they are GONE now. Tells me I made the right move not getting one!
I'd also look for a 'perpetual' Calendar. I hate breaking seal to change day / date THAN setting time twice a year with that
nasty DST thing......Invented, I'm told, by Ben Franklin....
With the screw down crown? 'Shoulders' help side-impact resistance. I don't like see-thru backs, either......

Teaching a class tomorrow on Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals at the local university. Their curriculum is accredited by the American Board of Engineering Technology. If I weren’t so old, I’d enroll & get their degree myself. The administration there keeps asking me to get a PhD so I can teach for them full-time, but they couldn’t afford me. So I teach pro-bono when I feel like it. Ends up that many of my former students graduate, and within a few years become Safety Managers for local manufacturing firms. Then they hire me as a consultant! So the “pro-bono” work actually pays for itself after all. Boom

Went to the Costco Business Center today and THEY had a couple business-rated color laser printers. MFC-L8895CDW This is a BROTHER machine and 'only' 600$. Only 58 some reviews of which <7% are 1 star......
New Costco? GIGANTIC. Wear Hiking Shoes. I walked about 1 mile, per my phone.....

Right now, laser printers are where you can find them (combo of Covid & world shipping snafus). I got one, I'm out. Now I've got my old printers on CraigsList, and we'll see if they bring anything.

But even some of the FX mount lenses (full frame) are tough to find, though most have been out for years. The 70-200f2.8 for the 'new' mount was delayed over a year. I suspect some stuff is just 'lost in transit'.......

Just the opposite, for me. I'd buy a Nikkor Macro lens for my mount AND still have stand mount strobes AND a light table. I'd SELL my 85mm f1.8 which while superb, would become 'surplus'. These days I limit myself to what I call a 3-lens kit. Years ago I drug around 5 or 6 lenses in a bag I found I was simply UnWilling to carry any more...... I took photos for artists for a while and they are a demanding bunch. I love glasss art and have a light table to that end. I don't have an on-camera flash. Only used one when doing weddings. And at that? I had an assistant with a Reflector standiing OVER me to provide a wide, almost shadow free, light..... My strobes? 800 watt-second Alien Bees useful for lots of setup stuff......200 watt modeling lights and settings down to 1/32nd or so..... Also? Reflector, diffusor, and other goodies on 10 foot stands........When I do groups at a Wedding? i get terrific results....

You USE your camera. I’m not a photographer - the only reason I got my SLR was to do macro work for eBay sales. Now that I can accomplish the photos I need with an iPhone, I going to sell my SLR equipment.
Looking at the watch inventory, it’s also time to clean house there…

I can't imagine I'd EVER own more than 2 or perhaps 3 watches. But I can't afford what I'd Like to own and certainly would need to research a bunch more for some others i may not be aware of...
With a few exceptions, those whose images you loaded are mostly unfamiiar or something I'd not consider.....Like Fossil.....
I just thought of a Railroad Pocket Watch....now THAT might be something to catch my interest!
