Not true. 4k has been in HDMI for a long time. What is *already* required if you want to use things like Sony's 4k server, is HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2.

Not to hijack the thread, but I can't see a front panel HDMI, iirc it was there on an earlier version?

Looks like the new board necessitated a change in the design. It looks like they removed that from the text also, as I'm fairly certain the old one had a front HDMI.

The issue with HDMI 2.0 in general is that there is not a specified UltraHD video standard just yet. Yes, we know HDMI 2.0 has bandwidth for 4k@60p but that is with 8bit color and 4-2-0 color compression. Videophiles in the industry like Joe Kane who really want to put the ULTRA in UltraHD are pushing for 10 - 12 bit color and at least 4-2-2 color compression and a larger color gamut like REC2020 over the standard REC.709. This would benefit displays with a higher dynamic range and more realistic colors. Otherwise, the only thing you get out of 4k is just a bigger picture. So HDMI 2.0 from the get go maybe a little compromised if the UltraHD video standard is finalized with specification not available in this early HDMI 2.0 boards.... On the other hand, the beauty of the XMC-1 is that Emotiva would just need to upgrade the HDMI board and done!! I really like this separate board idea!! you upgrade what you need and that's it!!

I don't know if you were replying to me or not, but to clarify what I was saying about HDMI 2.0, this is where I got my info: HTG 179 - Don't Call It HDMI 2.0

Not to hijack the thread, but I can't see a front panel HDMI, iirc it was there on an earlier version? That is correct. The new picture shows a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB jack, and a stereo 3.5mm jack for an analog input (i.e. "ipad").

So since hdmi 2.0 was the supposed reason for the delay past today, if it's going back to 1.4 I guess they start shipping out this afternoon?
I called Emotiva and the sales person said he didn't know either. Can't imagine that's the case. They just haven't settled on the new message. Hopefully I am wrong, but it certainly doesn't sound like 2.0 is part of this unit now.

Not true. 4k has been in HDMI for a long time. What is *already* required if you want to use things like Sony's 4k server, is HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2. Indeed. For either the Sony 4K server or the Samsung external drive/server you absolutely need HDCP 2.2 and it's a fair guess that will also be required in any "4K Roku" or similar that we might see in the future. Perhaps more important, it's even more likely that some of the streaming services such as Netflix and the 4K service planned by DirecTV (in conjunction with Samsung as shown at CES) will have the HEVC decoding done in the display, but since you'll want to pass the HDMI through the XMC-1 first to get the audio decode (if that is permissible since the decoding is, as noted, in the TV) the latest HDCP will be required. I can see a scenario where the DirecTV box gets connected to the TV for decoding and then you have to use ARC or optical for audio out to your surround processor. The Sony server has two HDMI outputs: One to the TV and one for audio. The Samsung just apparently connects to the TV. Folks, it looks as though we're in a bit of uncharted waters here which is why a "better safe than sorry" approach is required. In the YouTube video posted today Dan talks about a "10 to 15 year life" for the XMC, but if you aren't compatible with formats that are out now, let alone those still to come, how can that happen? Yes, Yes, I know, "replace the HDMI board and you're fine". Great for those who like opening products and messing with them, but for what the XMC costs I expect either easily replaceable plug-in boards or otherwise factory-based updates. The latter seems to be the direction this will take, at least for me. One hopes that when the updates specs are posted they will spell out the HDMI particulars including bandwidth, clock speed and formats the unit is compatible with at this time. I'm hoping for 600MHz/18Gbps so that when we start to see 10- and 12-bit content or 4:4:4 the XMC will be capable of handling it. If not, it isn't "future proof". Time will tell...

Everyone is just guessing at this point and without confirmation one way or the other from Emotiva as to whether 1.4 or 2.0, I'm certainly not getting excited about it.

Yeah I didn't want to read much into it at first either, but since no one from Emotiva has refuted what the page now says and even their salespeople say "we don't know", I would say it is highly unlikely that things are the same as they were two weeks ago when Dan informed us all hdmi 2.0 was coming and was only around a month and a half from starting shipments.

I prefer to think that they haven't gotten around to updating the page completely yet. Im going to stay positive until I hear otherwise.
Also, the other side of the coin is that no one has confirmed either.

I have a need for HDMI 2.0 / HDCP 2.2 now, so its a pretty big deal. Not the end of the world if its back to 1.4, but like I said, that would be REALLY odd given the "big announcement" of HDMI 2.0 only a couple of weeks ago. Really. Just plain weird to do that. That would imply seriously flying by the seat of your pants. Please explain how you have a need for HDMI 2.0 now? I'm very interested...

The fact that noone has responded or corrected it, makes me think it's going to be shipping really soon with 1.4.

It may, but it's too early to jump to conclusions.

The verbiage in that link looks right but when I click on it with my phone it goes to the wrong product. Are you seeing a media player that is $699?

> It may, but it's too early to jump to conclusions. It's not to early to conclude. Either it is true (1.4) or it's a typo. Given that this info is given in the text and the specs, it is not likely a typo. There's no HDMI 2.0. It's not the first time Dan has been "confused" on specs or delivery dates... Perhaps he hoped Fusion would distract us enough not to notice. Agreed! It would be really awesome if they ship this month and offer an upgrade later this summer. To me it's a "win-win". They show it's actual working product and ship close to what they said *and* it shows they are really going to upgrade it at a later date. (to fix the umc-1/3d 1.4 broken promise)
