Sony recently field upgraded their 4K TVs from 1.4 to 2.0 via firmware. If the TDMS transceiver/switch has the clock and it's the right part then it can be upgraded to the new spec via firmware in-field.

The issue with HDMI 2.0 in general is that there is not a specified UltraHD video standard just yet. Yes, we know HDMI 2.0 has bandwidth for 4k@60p but that is with 8bit color and 4-2-0 color compression. Videophiles in the industry like Joe Kane who really want to put the ULTRA in UltraHD are pushing for 10 - 12 bit color and at least 4-2-2 color compression and a larger color gamut like REC2020 over the standard REC.709. This would benefit displays with a higher dynamic range and more realistic colors. Otherwise, the only thing you get out of 4k is just a bigger picture. So HDMI 2.0 from the get go maybe a little compromised if the UltraHD video standard is finalized with specification not available in this early HDMI 2.0 boards.... On the other hand, the beauty of the XMC-1 is that Emotiva would just need to upgrade the HDMI board and done!! I really like this separate board idea!! you upgrade what you need and that's it!! OWHH I KNOW!!!To quote a British *bleep*! NO 4:4:4 !!! DEATH TO CHROMA SUBSAMPLING!!!NOT EVEN 10bit 4:2:2!!! WHAA!!!

They are rolling out the same upgrade now for my projector.

Seems odd to write a post about HDMI 2.0 and post an product page update, which updated the HDMI section, that shows 1.4. Will be curious to see if this is an error or not.
Edit: I just spotted the other post - confirms 1.4.

I don't think Sony has consumer replaceable mainboard design like Samsung has though I could be wrong.

Samsung is doing their updates through the "Evolution Module" that is an external box that connects to the back of the set.
