Since Emotiva has not put out a new sub for a while.... what is a good all purpose sub (HT/Music) value? Looking to stay less than $1000, ID companies are fine because of the value. My research starts NOW! SVS? HSU? Rythmik? others?
Thanks for your comments!
Oh, and my living room is fairly small, 12x15, partially open to the kitchen.

May I recommend Power Sound Audio (PSA). I own their XV15 model, and am VERY pleased. It was well under $1K.
I've also owned M&K, B&W, Definitive Technology, Klipsch, and other subs. The PSA is the best value of any.

From a best Value standpoint I would go with a sealed Rythmic if music was my priority. Or a PSA ported sub if HT was the priority. There was a great price on a used SVS SB13 that I would jump on if it's still available in the Emporium.

My room is a little bigger than yours (16x19)and also opens to the kitchen. I am using a single PSA XS15se and that provides plenty of clean, deep bass for music and movies. I would recommend contacting Tom at PSA and asking for his recommendations.

I've heard the PSA in B'zilla's room. It certainly pushes out some output. I haven't heard any other high performance subs to compare. But the room is on the large side and it was able to provide deep bass.

Another vote for PSA. I picked up an XV15se and loved it so much that I have a 2nd one on the way. I was trying out options to replace an MFW -15, and the XV15se didn't disappoint.
Edit: I should note, however, that my usage is 100% HT as I don't like subwoofers with music. That said, I did try it out with music briefly, and compared to the MFW the XV15se is MUCH cleaner. No "mushy thump" like I get with the MFW. I think with proper calibration the XV15se will blend nicely with music.

I'm using my two Rythmik subs almost exclusive for music. For music you need what is called a 'fast' sub, therefor I prefer sealed subs. But there is absolutely nothing missing when I watch a movie. Before I had two REL subs. Oh, maybe you also understand I like to have two subs and not just one. None of the other subs mentioned before I have heard, so I have nothing to compare with. Success with your search!

I love my Speakercraft Bass-X12. Lots of bass without the low pass rumbles associated with many subs. Sounds crisp with music and fantastic with movies. Not sure what the replacement model is but I would seek one out if you can!

If you need something solid, musical, powerful, not extremely expensive, I would recommend an SVS. They have very nice sales on their outlet section. Some scratches, or not at all. Any sizes, any prices. The service is excellent. I sound, maybe as a salesperson, but I am just a happy client.

Thanks for all the reply and advice. The PSA looks to be a good fit for me. All though I will check the SVS outlet stuff also. Again thanks!
