Emotiva has an uphill battle ahead of them. Whatever they decide to bring to market, it will not please everyone. The features you want may not be the same as I want. Bottom line is, there will have to be a happy medium if this has any chance of being produced. Hopefully, the product will please the majority of consumers, that is if it will be in production at all. There are already slew of them that rely on phones or tablets as controllers. What's lacking in the market are free-standing, self-contained receivers, with or without an onboard DAC.

I guess you could say I'm old school. To me, audio consists of common components connected together by cables to produce sound that we call music. I do not see where a computer is involved in the above components, and where a laptop, notebook, or any other type of computer should be in the equation. Yes, I know there is computers in remotes, DACs, pieces such as chips are computers to an extent. I'm talking about, notebooks, even towers becoming a part of an audio system. I want a computer for things I am doing now, making posts, sending and receiving email, reading the news online. I don't need a computer in order to play music.
All I want is a product that will bring the world of music to my system. Yes, I know a network audio player is a computer related source but that's not what I'm talking about. This laptop I am on will not become part of my audio system.
Yes, I am old school and proud of it.

If you are smart enough to learn how to make a half decent cup of coffee then you are smart enough to learn how to build a decent HTPC.

If you are smart enough to learn how to make a half decent cup of coffee then you are smart enough to learn how to build a decent HTPC. But there is a segment of us that don't want to have too.... And personally I have built several and I'd still buy a purpose built machine.

And personally I have built several and I'd still buy a purpose built machine. So go and buy yourself a pre-built HTPC. There's hundreds upon hundreds of those out there, and many of the ones that are good can be had for a shin these days.

If you are smart enough to learn how to make a half decent cup of coffee then you are smart enough to learn how to build a decent HTPC. So to build an HTPC I have to dilute my skills at making coffee? I make a fully decent cup each time!

So to build an HTPC I have to dilute my skills at making coffee? No, that's not what I said. I think Emotiva should design a HTPC that has a built-in espresso maker and milk frother so when coffee is ready, it plays "Black Coffee" by Peggy Lee in Hi Res.

Smart TVs and ARM based mini PCs have practically killed off the HTPC for most people.
My #1 transport though is a HTPC.
Actually it's my only transport!

(1) Technivorm Moccamaster KBT-741 (2) Baratza Vario Burr Grinder (3) Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Uh... I could make a list for HTPC components and software as well if you like?

I know it has. I would like to keep the discussion about what Emotiva may do regarding a network audio player. Let's try to stay on course.

Those that don't usually get locked down, and I don't want that to happen to this thread. This is considered big news, and when Emotiva makes n announcement, this thread will be right there. If I didn't have any interest in a network audio player, this thread would've never been made.
If anyone should happen to come across any reviews on the Teac NP-H750, I would appreciate it if you would contact me via IM and let me know.

I am the newbe here. There are many that would like a high end stand alone Media Tuner(I will call it) the same size as a UMC200. One with all the crap preloaded. It would need
•Network Playback (Music Streaming) Function (DLNA1.5 Certified) Capable of Playing Audio Files Stored on a USB Memory (MP3/WMA/WAV/FLAC) •Internet Radio Capability(preinstall as much as you can Netflix, Pandora Spotify etc...) •"Made for iPod/iPad/iPhone" Certified •AirPlay Function Pre-Installed Also note--Most music lovers want to listen their digitally stored music collection without having to switch on their computer. •Throw in an AM/FM Tuner(no offense Modiva your tuner on the UMC200 is stinko) I keep my old McIntosh Tuner just in case I want to hear this low end format) Build in and sell it for $399 and they will come.

There are plenty of boxes out there that already do all of that. Indeed, most mid-level receivers these days have that sort of functionality (I just bought a Marantz NR1504 for $370 to use on my back patio and it does all of that plus add HDMI switching, Dolby and dts HD decoding, Audyssey MultEQ and 50WPC X 5.) I think a stand alone media player should be Airplay and Internet compatible, yes, but should also play files from DLNA and LMS and iTunes. And having WiFi connectivity would be nice. And I know most people want it to have a good on-board DAC, but I'll likely never use it so give me an ASYNC USB output, please.

I'm confused. What will this give me, that I can't get with a $35 Chromecast and the PLEX app (Chromecast & AppleTV compatible) on my iPad?
Sincerely, /b
