I bought a very large Infinity Model Fifteen subwoofer a few years ago that weighed 105 pounds boxed - 92 pounds unboxed. I watched the UPS delivery guy drive up to the front of my house - he literally dumped it from the bed of his van to the street - letting it land on one end - crunching the box badly. Probably a 3' drop. He got it to the door and asked me to sign for it - I refused. He looked a bit confused about it but I told him I had seen how he got it out of the van. He looked a bit sheepish when he realized he was caught red handed. The sub got sent back to the seller who probably got reimbursed by UPS. They sent another one that got here in great shape. I let Harman Audio know why I refused the first sub. They thanked me and told me it had been 'handled'.
The difference with UPS and FedEx is UPS workers are direct employees of UPS. FedEx delivery people own their own trucks and contract with FedEx to deliver in a certain area. They are directly responsible for damaged goods. I'm sure they have insurance but as with any insurance the less $'s you cost the insurance company the better the rates are. I've had 1 item that didn't get delivered via FedEx - seems the contractor/delivery guy rejected a box that was pretty much destroyed before it got to them. He wouldn't let it on his truck. I eventually got what I had paid for - and it was in great shape.
IMO the worst shipper is USPS. I've sent packages to my kids who live 200 miles away - boxes that are in good shape on my end are often very beat up by the time they travel 200 miles. I use FedEx whenever possible.

Thanks for the input guys... rest assured I am no troll I just unpacked my 3 XPA-100's and UMC200 and found damage. The units were all packed perfectly, someone dropped the ball at the factory. The UMC will not sit flat on a flat surface... I assume its a matter of one of the feet being taller than the other 3 or perhaps a tweaked case. 2 of the XPA's have dents in their cases... the paint has cracked and chipped off. Oddly enough the third XPA is perfect. I just sent an email with photos to Emotiva and although I am sure they will correct the issue I wanted to see other peoples experiences. Mmmmmm! I think Emotiva will have an increase of this type of problems since they use UPS as transporter. UPS guys has probably very gently drop the boxes from the truck to dock, after from the dock to another truck to a shelf to the truck floor to the street tarmac and finally gently at your door. I think UPS employees treat your shipment as their CIE, manager, and boss treat them. It's only my opinion found on what I observed and heard from them. I definitely prefer FedEx.

Alright boys and girls, How many of you have opened your brand new Emotiva gear only to find cosmetic issues right off the hop??? Things such as dents, bent/poorly assembled cases and units that will rock back and forth all day because either the cases are tweaked or the feet are all different heights. Post your experiences. I've bought a XPA-7, XPA-5, XPA-2, 2 XPA1's, XPR-5, 2 XPR-1's, a UMC-1, ERC-1, SR-120 and a few other things and all were packed well and looked better than Kristin Stewart upon arrival..

I bet that XPA-7 was so transparent, it sounded like it wasn't even there!

Dan, Cathy,
Please guys, re-do your great deal with FedEx.
For we Emotiva buyers in Australia, Bongo is far more expensive and UPS just doesn't get it when it comes to looking after the goods that might weigh a few lbs (kgs) more.

I'm glad they are taking care of that for you. I've only had a few minor things that I didn't feel it was worth it to send it back for to be wrong with my stuff( LEDs not as bright as others, loose knobs ect.) I did have a speaker magnet break off, I fixed it myself and tried to get them to send me a replacement but after several reminders they never sent it. I got tired of calling them and it has been working fine so far so I just gave up. Sorry for those comments from some of those members like dyohn and chuck they can be kind of rude sometimes, just know not all of us members are as quick to judge. Anyway enjoy your new toys when they get back.

XPA-3 Gen 2 arrived with a layer of dust and greasy fingerprints. A short phone call with customer service resulted in a quick replacement and return shipping label. I may have been too picky but knew I would keep the amp for Yeats.
UMC-200 was flawless.

UPS = United Parcel Smashers
Cheaper to hurry and damage your goods and pay out occasional claims. UPS hides behind improper packing on insurance claims. Fedex definitely has fewer parcel crunches. USPS just loses, steals, or delivers to the wrong address (including dumpsters).
