Everyone, Please check and confirm this one...................... When I go to the speaker setup menu and set the back surround speakers to "none", then go to the Equalization menu, I lose the System EQ and Reset Filter selections. The only way to have these features available is when the back surround speakers is set to "2 small". This occurs with both speaker presets. This is not good for 5.1 users. Looks like this may require a firmware update................ I can confirm that System EQ appears when I enable the rear speakers, and disappears when I disable them. I've tried a few times now, but I cannot get the Reset Filters option to appear. I'm not even sure what the System EQ does. If it's supposed to be a shelf, then I'm really bummed, as I could certainly use it in my system.

It can also be found in the Main Zone - Trims - Tone for some listening modes but it's temporary if changed there.

I'm going to have to put the updates on hold for a bit as my dad just suffered what appears to be a stroke and I'm 7hrs away by plane with a lot of things to attend to before I will be able to head down to be there...thanks in advance for your kind thoughts (no need to leave them here), but a few prayers his way would be great. He is stable for now but I want to be there when he is out from hospital if I can be.
so from the last dated updates (14/08/26) if anyone wants to compile the latest list I would be ok with making a single or couple of updates to the first few posts just so its all in one place.
sorry again for dropping the ball, but family is first. Ill still be dropping in tho...but I just realised I'm going to be away from my XMC-1 too so won't be able to test anything either.

I was responding to bluescale who also confirmed it but asked what it does. You can see what it does, albeit temporarily, from the Main Zone menu under "Tone". But neither bluescale nor I have seen the Filter Reset item you mentioned in the EQ section.

Have you tried running the sound through the TV and back into the XMC-1 via HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel)? Does it still garble then? That is the next step. I run optical from the tv to the xmc, so I'll try that first because it's an easier test. All I have to do is get the hdmi into the tv (no fun) and change the settings on the XMC. Ok, this thing is strange. I updated the apple and still no joy. I connected the HDMI to the tv and optic out to the XMC and still no joy. I used the TV speakers and it works fine. I moved the HDMI coming from the apple from HDMI 2 to 3 on the XMC and still no joy. I then went into the XMC setup and changed the 5.1 for HDMI 3 from auto to forced surround and it worked OK. I then moved the HDMI back to 2 because the Harmony is setup for that and it works fine, though I never changed that input from auto to surround for the 5.1 input. I am not sure why it is acting up, but the 2.0 content on the apple plays at normal volume and the 5.1 content is garbled and the volume is very low and varies. If it acts up again I'll try changing the HDMI 2 5.1 input from auto to forced surround and see it it behaves after that.

Have you tried calling Emotiva to see if they have any insight? I can't think of any logical explanation for sure behavior, except for maybe evil pixies living inside your XMC-1.

I still think Auto is the problem for many sound related and level related issues that are being noted. once this processor get out into the non technical consumer I fear thats this AUTO choice will be made to default to something more stable like surround/stereo or direct.

I have a minor "bug" to report. Maybe this isn't a bug but, is kinda annoying. When I use the power button on my Dish satellite remote to turn on my LG tv sometimes my xmc also turns on witch in turn powers all my amps as well. Happens about 50% of the time.
Also no matter what remote I use my xmc seems to pick up the signal. The power button blinks rapidly while pushing any button on any remote. this happens regardless of the function or remote used.
Certainly not a big deal but having to turn my system off right after it turns on does get annoying after a while.

It's quite strange, but hasn't caused any problems for me so far.

From page 70 of the manual...
Note: When the XMC-1 is on or in standby, it always “listens” for IR remote control codes. If configured to do so, the XMC-1 can accept remote control codes intended for other devices via its front panel and remote IR inputs, and relay remote control codes intended for other devices via its IR remote control outputs. Because this capability is always active, the standby button on the XMC-1 will flicker to indicate that it is receiving remote control codes when you operate IR remote controls for OTHER devices within range of its sensors; this is normal.

Very minor: When I do a backup config to a USB memory stick, I get two files: "avrUserLocal" and "avrUserLocalBackup" And both always have the time stamp of: 7/30/2013 10:37 PM

Ah.....yes sir! That did it. Thanks! You're most welcome. CEC is not useful in most cases. CEC is mostly a useless and buggy proposition. However, with my "SMART" TV, in order to get the audio (via ARC) from the apps (HULU, Netflix etc..) to auto switch, it has to be on. This also has the unfortunate side effect of switching the Monitor to the TV tuner source every time you turn it on. What a PITA when you want to use a different source.

My XMC-1 takes 35 seconds to boot up. Is that normal?
