This sounds like a warped or unbalanced disc, or a defective player. Suggest you call Emotive.

I agree... I've heard that noise before, not from my ERC-3 (or ERC-1). Always has been a disc.

I know exactly what you mean. I am very satisfied with my xsp-1, 2 xpa-1, and the erc-3 plays very well, but when I load a disk it's like starting a lawnmower (2 stroke engine). Everytime ? No, but most of the time, especially when I just turned it on. I've had many cd player since the first Sony CDP-101 and none of my previous machine (Hafler, Yamaha, NAD, Philips) made audible noise other than the door opening and closing.

I can hear mechanical noise coming from the CD slot as far as 2 feet away from it. It that normal? My unit is absolutely dead quiet. The only sound is upon loading and ejecting. Once loaded, nothing, until the music plays.

This sounds like a warped or unbalanced disc, or a defective player. Suggest you call Emotive. Nope, the disc is all good... The noise is same across all CDs. Same disc on a Sony 557esd plays dead silent. I am not sure how Emotiva can service my player as it is half away across the world in Singapore.

Could be something as simple as something not lined up correctly, because of a loose screw or screw that came undone. You definitely have an issue that needs to be addressed. The ERC3 is dead quiet and for me the best CD player I have ever owned.

I have no comment about its performance. But I find this noise a little irritating, because I don't expect to hear this kind of noise from this 3rd generation CD player from emotiva. It should be flawless like its predecessors.

Not sure if those complaining including myself got a wrong batch. Or some of us are more affected by the noise. Hence requesting the experts who are aware of this to respond on this thread exclusively on this noise. I have few other nit picks on the ERC-3 like slow loading and hard buttons, but that aside. This is one the best players to listen to performance wise, hence I would not like to brush it aside. Also worried about long term reliability. Is there a quick fix or recall to fix a noisy component in plan ? Oh please don't don't force us to buy a ERC-4 in future with the noise problem fixed.

My first ERC3 was replaced with a unit that had the same transport noise. I had the option of returning for a refund but the sound of the unit (other than the transport) is incredible for the price. I've attached an audio clip I just recorded after buying a CD with low level violin. Of course I can turn up volume to mask the noise with much of my music but no way to do this on quiet passages. 2014-12-10 06_26.wav (1.23 MB). I'm hoping the tech staff at Emotiva will be able to resolve this issue as it becomes more widespread.

That noise is not tolerable anymore and that player needs urgent recall for that very obvious reason.

Not sure why there would need to be a recall unless it impacted all owners..... Unless there was a small subset that have problems that could be identified. So far the people with the problem are a very small minority. No evidence to suggest it will become "more widespread".

I/we are hoping that this "small majority" will be cared for. I am sure the Emotiva administration is not anywhere close to GM thinking on recalls.

Emotiva seems to take care of it. I don't think this is a big deal. I feel like it's being implied that somehow Emotiva isn't/won't take cared of it for users that experience it?

Nope, I'm not implying that Emotiva won't take care of their customers. They sent me a 2nd unit and offered a refund after it acted the same as my first. I made the decision to keep the ERC3 and I will live with my decision. I just don't want other owners who have the same problem I have to think they're alone out there.
