Forget the monster sub, I'm more interested in what's behind the doors marked Flammable. Subscribed. Nothing like a good 18 inches* to get things shaking. EDIT: *that's what she said!

I think you should spray the i side of the box with Flex Seal. The product "AsSeenOnTV" it will seal everything up, ensuring the corners are all totally sealed. It also is a softish rubbery finish that deadens the box A Lot. A great $11 investment. when I built my boxes I did them both.
Also, if you use hurricane nuts. Take the time to drill a small hole in each one and then drive a tack through the hole into the MDF. It will ensure that they NEVER break loose and spin.

Don't forget to caulk your seams inside. Oh, good idea darksky... I never thought of that stuff. flex seal is really bad stuff.. I got a can .. when I read the label I could not believe the long long list of known CARINOGENS in it.. very toxic dangerous stuff .. not for my house.. put on a full gas mask when spraying it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! should be band imho... use some good acoustic caulking .. cheers

Thanks to Ivor( fattykidd) and his generosity I have started my 18" HT sub build, we did some tradesies and I will be using a Mach 5 IXL driver and a Behringer EP4000 amp. The box is a Parts Express knock down 4cuft subwoofer box, and some Dayton Heavy Duty Binding Posts. Box is built and sanded and just needs the finishing touches and she is ready to accept the driver when Ivor gets his new Mach 5 UXL's. I have a weakness for 18" subwoofers, as evidenced by the attached image....(my velodyne HGS 18.) It has been great except that the original plate amp. died after 8 years of service. Velodyne did a swap for me in July of 2009...so far so good. Good luck with your project.

It's always good to get your caulk inside as soon and often as possible.
