Maybe time to rethink (some) high end gear.
Go to 9:30 mins in .....
There's a high-end audio store in my town. I'm talking the top stuff like Audio Research, McIntosh, Wilson, Magnepan, B&W, Krell, Goldmund, Naim, etc. Their lower end stuff is Rotel, NAD. Marantz, Yamaha. etc. They used to carry Harbeth. I always thought they sounded quite nice BUT weren't worth the price tag. Maybe I was right. Seems, based on Danny's videos, that almost all speaker companies skimp on the crossover.

Some of the GR speaker kits are ok, but I wouldn’t waste my money on any of his component upgrades. Unless a crossover is completely redesigned to have better characteristics, buying more expensive components with the same values will likely make zero change except for making your wallet lighter.

I agree. He deals in audio myths other designers poo-poo. I restore classic speakers and upgraded components like film caps vs electrolytic, resistors can make a difference. The differences are not hugely different but are pleasantly nicer. Not all caps are equal. My first attempt at using all film caps vs electrolytic was a disaster. The re-do with a much better/quality cap and bypass caps made all the difference.

After hearing him talk about cables and connectors making such a huge difference, I stopped paying attention to him.

That's what I meant by him dealing in audio myths other audio designers poo-poo. According to his LinkedIn account he only attended Midwestern U for 1 year. Since I spend lots of time on the Classic Speaker Pages most of the audio engineers went to M.I.T. and they don't deal with that stuff.

My daughter and I enjoyed Tab Benoit’s Sunday evening performance at the Taft Theater in Cincinnati. Louisiana blues rock. Says he plays the guitar like he does the drums. I believe him, he did both. He broke two strings and plays hard and honest. Kudos.

When it is worth working to get it right. My MOTU Ultralite Mk.4 is such a working tool and music listening DAC as computer DACs suck. Was behaving like lets drop our packets of data and give me that hobby saw high pitched schiit. Not happening folks. Usual suspects even thought the USB cable was suspect. But not so, no no no! Uninstalled drivers and control and handling software after looking at Windows event viewer. DNS issues in the handler, big schiit there folks, but that still didn't fix it. Hence I bought that back up DAC elsewhere the SMSL Sanskrit on recently purchased. Well found out corruption in the internal house keeping in the unit itself. I had a whole bunch of settings, but committed all to memory, yeah some psych help maybe in order. But with all done along with even stuff like DNS flushing etc. I got it working again. Nuts this. This thing sounds great and really behaves like a naughty little kid sometimes. Hmmm, maybe a correlation here. I win and dominate over this. The I.T. B.S. never stops. Just built-ed in I guess.

Always more. So My MOTU continues its tantrum, went to another port and USB cable, now we'll see if it settles down here. Geez. And today was a list of crazy people at my work. One guy totally mean to one of my classmates, he lets me know. I tell, document everything date, time, who it was, and what transpired, and send to our Lead. We do not tolerate such behavior and that will get reported to his superior, and by the way. A fire able offense too. Our company has zero tolerance no matter how high in the food chain you are. You will treat your fellow co worker with respect, or work somewhere else.

MOTU is moved to Living room for more work. The SMSL Sanskrit taking over. Trouble free and drivers work a peach.

I've seen so many great shows there...Elvis Costello, Tedeschi-Trucks, Keb Mo w/Taj, Keb Mo with Jackson Browne/Bonnie Raitt, Red Green, Allison Krauss, and more. Love the classic venue. Mark

When you are driven and will not settle, and your definition of excellence will never be compromised and your integrity will always hold, your resilience and your patience and your resolve are your foundation. Great things start to happen. People who talk to me on our visits during our I.T. support events, get I really don't care about your gear, nor your software, nor any of the things that don't matter. It is you I am about. Your technology is a pretty good vehicle of which to help you shine as who you could be for those whom count on you around you. 4 accolades alone for me today having them realize that. Someone who never cares about their technology ruling them, but caring about their best outcome possible with the tools we to work with together. This is the ONLY place I have seen this be true. That is allot of places I can talk about, this one I am the humbled and happy that I am part of. People who care about you, and how create the environment people want to join you with. I have people that call me and I hear their sigh of relief that they did not get a person who just cares about the problem, but not being the solution. As I always say. It is about options.
