The Status Display options are for when you AREN'T pushing the Info button. They change things so that, when you're not doing anything, the display shows one parameter in LARGE print instead of more details on three lines. I tried all of the status display options, but don't see any difference ? You are supposed to see a difference when you push the info button right?

Under Status Display there are now 5 choices: Volume, Bistream, Full Status, Input and Surround Mode. Personally I prefer to keep the Full Status on and the OLED display off.

Dolby Loudness is a special feature which is available on SOME Dolby Digital audio content. The basic idea is that, for late night viewing, or if you just happen to be listening quietly, the dynamic range of the audio is compressed so you don't miss quiet dialogue. (So, at night, you can turn things down, and the loud parts aren't too loud, but you can still hear the quiet parts.) This is a version of what some folks call "midnight mode" or "loudness levelling" or even "low level dialog enhancement". Whoever produced and mastered the disc gets to decide exactly what happens when you invoke Dolby Loudness for that particular disc (and some don't enable it at all). From an audiophile point of view, it's messing with the dynamic range of your content, so it's evil.... but you might find it helps late at night or on some discs where the dialog is hard to hear. Off means Off, On seems to mean that it's always On (presumably only on discs that support it), and Auto means that it's only on for some content. (The standard itself seems to be somewhat vague about the details there - so you're on your own with that one. ) > 6) Dolby Loudness management now has three separate settings. What is this? Is it the "Loudness" button on the remote? How do we adjust it? Sincerely /b

Thanks guys for setting me straight on the "clock" display. Man I sure stepped on it that time. Thought it was strange that I could not find a setting for it, but I am the guy that bought that bridge in Brooklyn.

Asleep at the switch. Shame on me. Just now realized 3.1 has been released and can't get to it until Saturday.
However after reading the thread I see my first priority has been implemented. Higher audio gain on video pass through. Yeah!! I'll be able to get rid of my HDMI splitter and never again have to change inputs on the tv. Double yeah.

Keith/MODs can we have a either an officially locked thread for new (or still existing) bugs on 3.1. or at least a bug submission email address...so that we and Emotiva get a decent repository for know issues that can be seen by all, and added to by those that are able.
I started on for the UMC many years ago IIRC ... Ill start another one if nobody else wants to too.

Question- I'm still running my XMC-1 on firmware 2.0, can I update straight to 3.1 or do I have to do 3.0 then 3.1?

Yes, go straight to 3.1, you can pass 3.0 (I was trying to make that sound like Monopoly, but it just didn't work ). It really has to be that way or they'd have to keep all the previous releases available for people to upgrade 'through'.

I did just that for both my XMC-1's ... no issues at all, all the configs remained the same, IP addresses etc so all good...I do suggest that you do backup the config again both internally and to the USB also - can even copy to your PC/MAC and XML view the data I think.

Very dumb question.....I tried DSD for the first time from my Oppo 103 last night and got no sound. I put the Oppo in DSD mode, played an SACD, and no sound. If I changed the setting to AUTO or PCM, it played fine. What do I need to do on the XMC side? I would have experimented more, but the family took over to watch TV.

Do not pass 3.0 and do not collect $200.

You have to use an HDMI input for DSD. If using an optical or coax it would do as you describe. edit: as doc1963 explains below, only HDMI2 on the Oppo BDP-103 will send a DSD bitstream.

The 103 will only send pure DSD out of its HDMI 2 output. You'll have to make a separate (additional) connection to your XMC-1 and use it for SACD playback because the 103's HDMI 1 output has exclusive use of its Qdeo video processor (but no DSD). Not a big deal, just an additional cable.

It's easy to forget that it's only HDMI2 that works with DSD and the 103 and the 105. FWIW, the Darby editions (BDP-103D and BDP-105D) don't have that restriction.
