Just wondering if anything has been said. I am sure there are plenty of posts about this but I didn't see any recent ones. Since the Nvidia Shield (which I cant use with Netflix in 4k since the XMC wont pass it) has been out a while and the UHD players are supposedly coming soon, I'd say we really need the ball to get rolling on this... thanks for any info!

The audioholics review indicated Dan said by the end of the year. The review did not indicate which specific year, unfortunately. -tm

What exactly is the error message thrown up when you hook up the shield? Does it has to do with copy protection or the actual available bandwidth?

Copy protection it looks like...since it doesn't given an error... The Shield itself passes 4k through the XMC and to the Sony projector, but it wont pass HDCP 2.2, so Netflix will not output in 4k. If I bypass the XMC and go straight to the projector, I get Netflix in 4k.

Any good reports on folks using that on any HDCP 2.2 AVRs yet?

Yeah I have seen reports on it working on AVRs where it would be expected to work... didn't pay much attention though since I dont have one!

Lots of other products offer 2.2 HDCP and HDMI 2.0a. I would like to know how long I have to wait for Emotiva to offer the XMC-1 with the upgrade board.

But how long ago were those products released? I doubt they were released when the XMC-1 was released. At least there will be an update from Emotiva where most other processors will not have that option. I'm in no rush as I don't have a 4k TV or source.

My only point is that I would like to wait until the new HDMI 2.0a HDCP 2.2 board is available so I am future proofed. I have read about the XMC-1 and it seems like a perfect match for me since I just want a high quality processor that supports a 5.2 setup.

Given that one has to think that the new $899 processor will have to have some compatibility with HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2, one would hope that means the upgrade board will be a derivative of that. With UltraHD Blu ray, 4K content from DirecTV and Dish, more 4K content via streaming services, and, most importantly, the expected explosion of HDR sets and related content next month at CES, there simply isn't any excuse for making good on this promise. One suspects we'll hear something about this sooner than later.

The Shield is a cheap and good way to get 4k Netflix, and we were told the XMC upgrade would come out "well before any playback device would be available", or something to that effect. But crickets.... even though new products were just announced for CES.

Not making excuses but wonder about chip availability for a smaller company as they said that ages ago before the new 'a' suffix was added to allow HDR passthrough . Did they find the hdmi2.0 18gbps chipset being worked on not compatible ; back to the drawing board ? Not the 1st time a chipset was found to be wanting remembering the current hdmi chipset being reclassified from hdmi2.0 to 1.4b . Which was more honest than many other ce's I should mention Anyway it cant be much longer for anyone that needs it ; CES isnt far away - hang in there . I wish I had your download speeds

Given what we've seen with regard to displays, in particular, being upgradeable from 2.0 to 2.0a, it appears that the change is a matter of chip firmware. Yes, 1.4 to 2.0 DOES require new silicon. 2.0 to 2.0a seems not to.
For what it's worth, I've heard that Dolby Vision does not require 2.0a due to the way the metadata for HDR is packaged in.
What are they waiting for?

What are they waiting for? Yes it seems easy enough too judging by the marantz 7702 upgrade to 2.0a recently . Good question ; they can always put out a firmware for the various forms of HDR ; manni mentioned @ avs pertaining to the new jvc's ; which are hdr10 compatible [ though not up to dolby vision standard which would be better] for compatibility due to the metadata as you said and its picture quality ..

Will all new XMC-1s come with the upgraded HDMI parts at no cost? If so at what point?
