Will all new XMC-1s come with the upgraded HDMI parts at no cost? If so at what point? Juswt anouced the upgrade will be $300.00 and that includes return shipping from Emotiva back to you. They will let the end user do the swap out if you insist. After the sale, I emagine the new price will include the new board. No guarantees that it will be $2,499.00 after this holiday sale, may be more to include the newer board. This is just oust my analysis.

The podcast implied that you'd be better off taking advantage of the holiday sale rather than waiting for the XMC-1 to ship with the upgraded board. I take that to mean that the price will return to $2499. $1999 + $299 + shipping is still less than $2499 and you'll get to have the XMC-1 sooner.

Where can I find the link to the Podcast? It's not (yet) on the Emotiva website link. I'll do the swap myself. This will save me shipping costs from the Netherlands but, more importantly, I've for at least a week no audio and video in the living room...

I thought these boards were going to be done "at cost" for us early adopters. Maybe I misheard. Either way it'll be a while before I go 4K so I'll worry about this later .

I would like the new board also and want to know what the cost is to install it myself. I thought the cost would be less than what is being quoted. I also thought early adopters would get a break. Maybe I'm wrong.

The cost to install yourself is the same, except you save the shipping cost. You miss out on it being done by an expert and the verification testing performed before they ship it back.
Perhaps, $299 is at cost. Must admit, I thought it would be less. I definitely won't be rushing to upgrade at that price

Everything's a matter of perspective. I'll be all over that new board as soon as it's released. After just recently popping for new a pair of Def Tech Mythos ST-L speakers, I consider the board's pricing to be in the fire-sale category. But I'll be installing the board myself. I've been building various kinds of electronic equipment for most of my life, so swapping the boards will be a walk in the park. And MUCH safer, in my case, than subjecting my XMC to insult and injury at the hands of some uncaring shipper. Cheers! T-

At 415.00 Canadian plus import duties and shipping? This wont be happening, be better off to wait for a 4k player with dual hdmi outs. I am a little pissed that they chose to release the XMC-1 without this board and then charge this kind of cash, seriously if you see what goes into a good motherboard for 150 bux this is an insult.

It's definitely disappointing. For me , it's not a quick buy. I'll have weigh the pros and cons and any work-arounds.

For another perspective, the Krell Foundation had an introductory $1000 price tag for it's upgrade to HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2. Now that the introductory price is over to upgrade the Krell Foundation to 4K, the current price stands at $2500. While the $299 price tag for the XMC-1 is not a drop in the bucket for me, I still consider it a more than fair price to bring my XMC-1 up to the current standards for 4K. Just my perspective and I can understand others thoughts on the upgrade.

that is a ridiculous price set by a boutique brand reserved for fools that willingly part with too much money for a product part that works no better than any other hdmi board so they can feel superior to other people.

Personally, I will wait until I actually need it as I'm happy with my set-up and my 1080P Sony projector. Most likely not for a few years

I am a little pissed that they chose to release the XMC-1 without this board and then charge this kind of cash, seriously if you see what goes into a good motherboard for 150 bux this is an insult. Well already before the beginning of the sale of the XMC-1, Emotiva clearly told that there would be an upgrade in the future to a HDMI 2.x board. So you could have waited to buy the XMC-1 until it would ship with this new HDMI board.. Is $299,- a bargain? Maybe not if you are used to the old Emotiva price levels but compared to what other brands are charging it is not that bad. For instance the Lyndorf tda2170 stereo amplifier with Roomperfect, which by the way really sounds impressive and challenges imho Dirac, a HDMI upgrade board costs €500,- in the Netherlands. I will go for an upgrade but not immediately. I will wait until the bugs, hard and software, really have been ironed out.

Its an expensive hobby ; indeed theres a lot of perspective with others ; maybe it will soften the blow when considering what it cost to upgrade a cary 11a I once had ; and that was only to hdmi1.4 with 2 inputs

At this price I think I am going to wait for the HDMI 2.8 revision with HDCP 4.2
Probably, I will have a truly future proof system by then.

$299 is not the "cost plus" pricing I was expecting, that's for sure. Especially for those that opt for a self install.
