Well Monoprice's new Blackbird device supposedly doesn't change anything. It only has an HDMI input and output and they claim it supports TrueHD and DTS:MA as well as LPCM. Now I suppose in theory it could be decoding and reencoding them but for $30? I have trouble believing they could get the hardware they need for that.
I don't know what is going on, and maybe Monoprice will get smacked down, but I have to imagine they consulted their lawyers before introducing such a device. Unlike HDFury who's whole business is expensive HDMI converters this is a tiny fraction of what they do and I can't see them risking their business over it.

They (HDFury) have just stopped selling all their HDMI to Component adaptors due to legal action.
