^^^ agreed. Painful to watch. Thirded, or fourthed, or whatever'd . I tried to watch but that guy is such a tool I just couldn't. I always feel bad for company reps when they have to go out and do PR.

I watched that video and liked it. The interviewer didn't really seem to know much about Emotiva (or audio really), but I am sure he has his fans, and he had nothing but positive things to say about Emo. In that respect, it was a win for Big Dan. Positive press to people he would never have otherwise reached, and I am sure it will add up to sales in the end. More than likely some of the fans of the interviewer will listen to what he says without question. I haven't seen other interviews by the guy, but maybe he always comes across like that as part of his "online persona"? Certainly not the most polished interviewer I have seen, but seems like a nice enough guy. I am almost wondering if the interview was a bit "off the cuff", meaning that it wasn't a planned event but somehow he and Big Dan came into contact, and they decided to set it up. More than likely, it was just "winged" so-to-speak. If that's the case, it would explain the interviewer's lack of knowledge/preparation. I felt Big Dan was his usual self, but perhaps playing along a little bit with the interviewer as to not embarrass him or himself. IMO he handled it like a professional and got the Emo word out there. EDIT: Where are the high rez pics and specs for the new passive speakers?

What´s interesting that in the last video Dan says $999 for the EMP-1 but the other sources so far say $899. What´s true?

The Emersa line looks so nice.
I wonder if they have an elegant speaker system coming soon to match these sleek Emersa front end components.
They can almost do a high end HTIB at the retail stores - simple, elegant with great sound to match.

Any idea what you give up with the EMP-1 that XMC-1 provides for $1000 more? Will a full version of Dirac be an option with the EMP-1? Perhaps too early to answer all the questions, but the EMP-1 sure looks like a lot of processor for the cash.

Looks like the Emersa is single ended only, no balanced connections. It appears to have less hdmi inputs. Also the xmc-1 is touted as upgradeable, so far Emersa is not.
To me looks like significant difference for the extra $1500.

Dan Laufman in the Press Release Videos has not said that it is a light version. "Emersa EMP-1 (MSRP: $899): This full 7.1 channel preamp processor with unbalanced analog outputs plus balanced subwoofer output, has built-in Bluetooth connectivity, Dirac Live ™ room correction, USB DAC, and an Ethernet remote control option. The EMP-1 features an elegant aluminum chassis and includes a machined aluminum infrared remote control." In this Press Release Video Dan Laufman said the EMP-1 is HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 supported. That means to me Four HDMI 2.0 In and Two HDMI 2.0 Out. Looking good to me !

That same customer will most likely never have need for more than 4 HDMI inputs. I see no need for the EMP-1 to be upgradeable. I predict that if people see this on the shelf at the brick and mortar store, it will sell like pancakes ! People are dyeing for something that fits on there TV stand.

I will be among the first in line...assuming I can hold out that long! Cheers, Michael

Still waiting to see the real specs and when this will be released. Waiting and wondering ;-)

I was lucky enough to visit CES after 19 years. Then I was there as an editor of a hi-fi magazine, now as a retailer for consumer electronics. We're not selling high-end audio, mostly TVs and consumer audio, so I went to visit the show in the Venetian hotel more as an audio enthusiast for the past 45+ years than a business visit. Also I have bought some six or seven years ago UPA-5 and UMC-1, so I've been reading posts on this forum for the past six years, mostly regarding processors, and heard every podcasts in the last six years, too. Therefore it felt like I knew these people already, even though I met them for the first time. I was in line for XMC-1 but eventually that processor got too pricey for me so I was waiting for a cheaper processor to come along. It seems Emersa's EMP-1 will fit the bill. The retail price will be 999$ (everyone at CES said that, and I talked with everyone except Mr. Dan Laufman), so with the 40% upgrade certificate from my UMC-1 this will be then 599$. It looks like it will be a hell of a lot of processor for that money (even for 999$ I believe nothing comes close). As Mr. Lonnie Vaughn said in a conversation it will even have newer Texas Instruments chips than XMC-1. I forgot to ask him about the HDMI version it will have, but it seems it will have HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 version, which makes sense with Ultra HD Blu-ray players around the corner. You will also be able to buy full Dirac version as for XMC-1, so that you can make your own target curves. It looks gorgeous in real life, much better than on pictures. Display was blue OLED on the displayed samples. Mr. Vaughn said he will need a few months more just to tweak the software and make sure it will be really stable and working without a hitch from the go on. And Mrs. Cathy Laufman said they expect launch in Q2. Which is OK, we have to be patient for a few months more. I believe it will be worth waiting. The other Emersa components look and sound great, too. Amplifiers are also modular, so customer can choose how many channels he or she wants. And they sound great, I was listening to a stereo set-up that is also pictured here among these posts. I was also listening to the new Airmotiv speakers, the two floorstanders, and they sound great, too. Very natural, open and smooth. I have listened in another room to Martin Logan bookshelf speakers with similar treble speaker, but Emotiva's Airmotiv sounds better, even if it is only the fraction of the price of Martin Logans. (This seems to be the case across the board: two of my friends and I were publishing a hi-fi magazine for 7 years in Slovenia, so in that time I have heard (and owned) many of the great high-end amplifiers, from the likes of Griffon, Copland, Densen, and NAD. I can tell you, UPA-5 that I have now is not much worse than any of those, and is better from many of them, even if it was only a fraction of their price - and we are talking about entry level Emotiva amp here.) Speaking of entry level, there were no components of the entry level BaseX line on display, nor there was any information about it. All in all it was a great visit to the Emotiva rooms, it was very good to meet these nice people and talk with them, and I can assure you that as well the Emersa line as the new XPA Gen 3 amps will be a huge success. Emotiva has really started the year in the best possible way. Can't wait what comes next!
