to say a because a pre-amp is good sounding makes it "cutting edge" is the most absurd thing I have read today

Just look at the title of this thread, what would you think that we would be talking about. I'm holding a 40% processor upgrade card. I expect that Emotiva would be manufacturing processors to which one would want to upgrade! Lonnie hinted when we were all giving XMC-1 input that he would be able to add Atmos to the XMC-1 after its initial release. That almost made me bite, but I'm glad I didn't because later that didn't happen and probably won't ever happen. If the XMR happens in a reasonable time frame, then I will be happy, but much development time has already been wasted (IMHO) on a middle featured, ho hum, WAF pleasing line of equipment. Hints are that a entry line of components is coming (even more ho hum). Where's the top of the line stuff? Many of us here want to be shocked by a combination of cutting edge tech and value oriented products. I think Dan has changed his mission statement and just hasn't told us. That's fine, that's his prerogative, he doesn't owe any of us anything, but I'm just saying that some of us are disappointed right now.

If they just release the XMR-1 than we can stop debating about the XMC-1 not having the cutting edge codecs. But than we will be debating why the XMR-1'only have 11.2.2 channels and not 16.4.4 channels lol   . There's always going to debates when new electronics get release, that's what makes it fun  |

At least it won't cry from above since it does not have Atmos! Although it might lock on start up or just just turn a shade of aqua.  |

I said from a standpoint of sound quality the XMC-1 IS cutting edge. Multiple formal reviews of the XMC-1 have stated that FROM THE STANDPOINT OF SOUND QUALITY it is on par with processors which cost 2 or 3 times as much as the XMC-1. Meaning processors that cost $7500 or more. Many, many, XMC-1 users have made similar comments, or simply stated it is the best sounding processor they have ever heard. From definitions of "cutting edge"; the leading position in any field; forefront, state of the art, the highest level of development, the most advanced position; forefront; lead. Therefore, BY DEFINITION the XMC-1 can accurately be described has having CUTTING EDGE sound quality. Let me know if the big words are giving you trouble. I will try to simplify. |
