I bet some WD 40 will fix it. It fixed my pickup truck when I drove it in the pond. That stuff will fix anything. Are you suggesting Emo now ship a can of wd-40 with every purchase?

I am with you all on the sound quality. I don't want to give that up. And I am not exactly in a position to audition both in my home (my wife would kill me). On the other hand, the pops/clicks I hear is like a nagging scab that wont go away. That and I will still have to upgrade HDMI, and for all ports, who knows, maybe $600? If I factor that in, and what I can sell the XMC-1 for, then we are talking about $600-700 for gaining Atmos, having ARC with 4 presets, but with unconfirmed (but supposedly excellent) sound quality.

Anthem offers a 30-day money back guarantee so it's only your time and return shipping if it doesn't meet (exceed?) your expectations.

I worked hard and got my own WD 40. I even got a little straw with it. You just spray what's causing noise and it stops making noise.

Shoot I ain't got no use for no XMC-1. I just want something that's small and does 5.1 for watching tv and movies. I don't listen to music on it and all that stuff. That's what I got a stereo for.

Yup, that's one of the threads I was thinking of. They have one for the new MRX line, too. I think the latter is the one where Nick from Anthem was responding to questions. I strongly considered the MRX line before I ended up with the XMC-1. It looks like they've done a great job improving on the original line (as far as my complaints went). Today, with the XMC-1 pricing so much higher, I'd have a tougher time deciding between the two brands. -tm

If you use WD40, keep spraying the XMC-1 until you hear one very big pop, then should you not hear pops anymore (or anything else)

I usually get it when I pause my Directv for a while then unpause it. I think the problem is with the Directv genie box that outputs crap or sputters on the unpause. The once in a long while occurrence I just ignore as it doesn't matter. I'm surprised to hear that people continue to have this issue. I listen to FLAC files on Jriver...

As I've already said, I only get the "clicks"(which I liken to a tone arm dropping on to vinyl) when going directly from either of my two CD transports(Emotiva ERC-1/Sony CDP-X111ES) to the XMC-1 with a coaxial or optical connection. I have however since put a DC-1 between the ERC-1 and XMC-1, then balanced outputs from the DC-1 to XMC-1 balanced in, and this(along with the WD-40) , eliminates the "clicks".

I do not have this problem with my ATV Gen3 when using Air Play. I use the ATV optical out to stream my iTunes Music Library. I use the ATV HDMI out for any other content. Always flawless operation. Russ Is Dirac enabled? Please confirm you hear zero pop/clicks by simply navigating the start screen icons and zero pop/clicks on song changes? I have gen2 Apple TV that is jailbroken for Kodi/XBMC. I could try optical or even a gen3/4 to see if its better. Otherwise I'm expecting there must be something wrong with my setup or unit if its not happening to others. I don't think its fair to dismiss the XMC due to this quirk...its really not that big of deal and probably sounds worse reading about it. I wouldn't make your decision to purchase solely on this. Dirac is NOT enabled (yet, no laptop). Zero pops / clicks when navigating anywhere in ATV. Russ
