Is Dirac enabled? Please confirm you hear zero pop/clicks by simply navigating the start screen icons and zero pop/clicks on song changes? I have gen2 Apple TV that is jailbroken for Kodi/XBMC. I could try optical or even a gen3/4 to see if its better. Otherwise I'm expecting there must be something wrong with my setup or unit if its not happening to others. I don't think its fair to dismiss the XMC due to this quirk...its really not that big of deal and probably sounds worse reading about it. I wouldn't make your decision to purchase solely on this. Dirac is NOT enabled (yet, no laptop). Zero pops / clicks when navigating anywhere in ATV. Russ You'll get the same problem once you enable Dirac. As reported by others (myself included), with no Dirac (preset 1 or preset 2), its mostly not a problem. The problem is due to the DSP which is where Dirac operates. Seems that 'due to hard coded stuff that isn't fixable by firmware,' DSP immediately cuts off when its not getting a signal (digital silence) and this causes the signal to get interrupted ungracefully (stuff is still coming down the pipe)....hence the pop/click. My guess is the problem wouldn't existing if Emotiva implemented and tested with Dirac before shipping these off. Nonetheless, this isn't as much of a problem than it seems reading these posts...unless you have to use the system under specific conditions where digital silence comes and goes a lot. At that point, its flat out disturbing to hear all the pops/clicks and certainly I would not purchase XMC (or return it). Thankful, its not that much a problem for me since my HTPC maintains signal via HDMI and its rare the condition triggers the noise..though I refuse to use my Apple TV. Likewise, Apple TV should be able to function just like my HTPC and then there would be no problem as well... The workaround is use source that doesn't reproduce the conditions that trigger the problem...or fix the source. Unless Emotiva wants to claim they'll fix it via firmware (apparently they said the opposite).

I still want someone who owns an xmc-1 to tell us if it works on that, all about getting rid of the pops and clicks which this thread is about I own an XMC-1 and I don't get the pops and clicks 99.9% of the time. I usually get it when I pause my Directv for a while then unpause it. I think the problem is with the Directv genie box that outputs crap or sputters on the unpause. The once in a long while occurrence I just ignore as it doesn't matter. I'm surprised to hear that people continue to have this issue. I listen to FLAC files on Jriver... When listening to jriver is Dirac enabled?

Heck no. I worked hard and got my own WD 40. I even got a little straw with it. You just spray what's causing noise and it stops making noise. Can we spray that on politicians and lawyers, too? Please do and while your at it spray this thread.

I wish Emotiva would replace mine with one that works like yours. Dirac is a fickle beast. I don't know your history on how you ran Dirac so pardon me if I sound presumptuous or if you have already taken these steps. First, I still use the Dirac LE version. When I first ran Dirac, it was a mixed bag. Parts of the audio spectrum sounded better while others such as the highs felt exaggerated and not balanced. I used Socketman calibration file (not a factor if you have Dirac Full) and it took about 4-5 runs to really dial it in. Accurate mic placement is critical to Dirac's success from my experience and others as well who used my feedback when they reran their Dirac calibration.

When listening to jriver is Dirac enabled? Dirac is always enabled. Dirac is only enabled if the Dirac preset is selected. If preset 1 or 2 is chosen then Dirac is disabled.

While I only seem to have the pops and clicks with Dirac enabled, I have a hard time be!ieving they are caused by the configuration process. According to Keith this phenomenon is inherent in the dsp chip if I remember correctly. What I don't understand is, if that is the case wouldn't everybody also have it occurring on there xmc-1. Yet many people on the forum state this is not the case.

And for the love of god , don't even think about trying to skip ahead or back up to another scene. I wish the movie studios would stop putting previews at the beginning of the movie as well. Or maybe I could just stop watching movies all together... That would ensure I never have to experience pops anymore.

Yet many people on the forum state this is not the case. I recall getting a lot of pops or maybe it was static after my first couple Dirac runs. And I don't understand that either... I would think excessive pops would be covered under warranty but maybe I'm wrong.

No it does not require Dirac. I don't have Dirac enabled, and get the pops while navigating ATV. The sounds effects for ATV must be enabled to gear it (the default). Also, if you have your volume quite low, you may not notice it. If your volume is at reference level, it should be easy to hear.

I was worried as an early adopter, got my XMC-1 December of 2014 but mine has been literally flawless. Anyway, perhaps you guys can claim warranty service on these defective XMC-1s and get these issues corrected.

Apple TV..... That's hilarious! I don't have Apple TV Didn't realize that it was shortened. I should get it though considering we have 4 iPhone 6s, 2 iPads and a iMac.
