Lonnie has also confirmed that there will be " STEREO" XPA Gen3 modules release about the same time as the monoblock modules. .....For example, the differential mono block module for the Gen 3 amps will be released soon as will a stereo module....
Lonnie What is known about the stereo modules? Anything? Can anyone post a link to thread where anything tangible was discussed about these? I have searched and have not found anything. Zero, zip, nada. But I do remember it being mention in a video or podcast or something. Does anyone remember this? I am curious as to what these really are and what advantages do they bring to the table. What is the benefit of these to the buyer? Again, this thread is about the XPA Gen3 Stereo Modules.
If you wish to post about the monoblock modules, please do it here: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/48087/lonnie-confirms-gen-monoblock-soon

I am interested in these as well. The first time I recall seeing mention of a stereo module on the forums is when Dan L. floated the idea of an 11 channel Gen 3 option back in the spring using a combination of single channel and stereo blades for something like 3x300 + 8x150. (My memory on the wpc could be faulty.)

Actually you can mix and match the single channel modules we have now with the 2 channel modules so basically you can configure up to 14 channels if you wanted.
BTW, the way things are looking I would say the stereo module will be released just a head of the mono-block. But both will be out before years end.

Here is a quick tease for you guys. This one shown isn't a final production piece but you get the idea.

Lonnie Lonnie & Nick, thanks for the info and concept picture!!! I get it! The big benefit is the ability to put more than 7 channels in a single chassis and I presume if the stereo blades are comparable in cost to the regular single blades, and for a person who doesn't need all that power, can get a multi-channel X-series amp for a lot less $$$. Up to 14 channels for say distributed audio systems. And it would be possible have 3 regular blades and 1,2,3 or 4 stereo blades to make a 5,7,9, or 11 channel amp in one box. Or five regular blades for a 5.x surround system, and two stereo blades for two additional zones. SWEET! Lots of combinations so there is lots of flexibility. NICE!

Lonnie So if I have this right, the picture provided by Hair Nick is essentially the pre-production prototype, and it is the same as the actual production units except they have different speakers terminals that match the regular XPA Gen 3 modules. I guess matching aesthetics front and back creates design symmetry and just looks right too. Nice touch and Cool.

We have discussed this all many months ago. It was my claim then, as it still is now, that the really cool part about the modularity of these new units is not the ability to upgrade in the future (cool yes, but not the biggest cool), it's the ability to mix and match blades at the time of purchase to create the custom amp that fits your particular needs.
All wattages listed just for example only.....(TBD by Emotiva not me), but here's just a few examples of 7.1.4 possibilities.
1 Box Unit 3 single blades = 3 x 300 4 stereo blades = 8 x 150
2 Box System Box 1 3 DW blades = 3 x 500 1 Single Blade = 1 x 200 Box 2 7 Single Blade = 7 x 200
These are just 2 thoughts. If you start thinking about it, considering things like 5.2.4 or 7.2.6 etc, the options are really nice.

It is really cool. Many, many custom possibilities. Also, I knew it had been discussed of the forum (I had actually read part of it months ago), but I could not find those discussions and I could not remember the details. Hence this thread. The search function on the board leaves a lot to be desired. - Wrinklemash

I'm guessing out in international distributor land the prices will be out of reach of those that have been owners from the direct model days...lets see how this pans out.

The double blade system will only accept double blades and thus, the maximum will be 3 x 500W doubles in that chassis. This is because the power supply for the double blade chassis is different from the power supply in the standard chassis. I have to agree that 14 stereo units would make a kick ass distribution amplifier. But my impression was that Emotiva would be charging more for the stereo blades than for the standard 300W single blades. I doubt that the production cost is that much higher. I always wonder who needs 500W RMS power (about 1.5db louder than max at 300W). I guess people are driving some seriously power hungry old school Magnepans at reference volumes.

Please note my example was given before Dan made his announcement about the DW blades. It was only an example, not fact, just to show how cool modularity will be. We were all still in hypothetical mode. But, you have it backwards with my examples. The Box 1 Unit system example is totally possible, as it still uses all single wide blades. 3 x single and 4 x stereo is possible. Actual wattage being reported is slightly different now than what was originally discussed. I forget what they are exactly, so please don't take my wattage numbers as the gospel. I'll just use the old numbers for simplicity sake, but the 7 blades would now more accurately be listed channel wise as something like 3 x 300 and 8 x 75, which translates to 7.1.4. Or you could do 5 x 300 and 4 x 75 for 5.1.4. I could keep going but I'm sure you get the idea. I'd have to hunt back through the threads, but I believe the 7.1.4 version is what Dan even mentioned (or hinted at) in one post. He also assigned a price, but I forget what that was right now. What isn't possible is my 2 Box System, because you are exactly right, only 3 of the DW blades will fit in one box. So a 2 Box System would have to change to something more like 3 DW x 500 in Box 1, and then Box 2 would need to make up the rest in one configuration or another, anywhere from 4 to 14 channels I'd guess depending on the set up. But what's still cool is that you can put emphasis on say, the sides, by making them full mono blades at 300, and then pull back on the backs and ceilings making them 75, all in the same box. You can't do that with most other amps in one single chassis. As for the cost of the stereo blades, I haven't seen any info yet, not even rumors, regarding their individual costs. Same goes for the DW blades. Nothing yet that I have seen.

Hopefully one day they will be able to do a 7x300 watt amp in a single box.

Has Emotiva confirmed if the stereo modules will be 150x2 @ 8 ohms? I'd love a box with 4 single blades (wides/surrounds) and 3 stereo blades (rears/ceiling) to compliment a box with 3 double wides for LCR duty for a 9.x.4 setup.
75x2 for the stereo blades would be a little light...

Based on the CES show videos - I believe that can be done. However, the stereo blades are 75 watts at 8 ohm per channel.

Sorry guys, if this is the wrong thread, but I could not figure out where to post it. And I do use the XPA Gen 3 for stereo.... and do tell me where to post my questions if this is the wrong place, thanks.
Two Questions:
I just got my new XPA Gen3 5 modules home : Outstanding sound. I replaced an old Linn 5125 - and the Emotiva Gen3 - though cheaper - sounds MUCH better - LEAGUES better. Both during low volumes and especially when power is needed. The XPA Gen3 is very clear in the mid-range and much better bass handling. Treble is beautiful. It was so easy to set it up. My old Linn needed cables to pass on signal from one module to the next for the bi-amp set up. The Emotive does not. WHY does it work? Is there some internal logic in the XPA-Gen 3 guessing (correctly!) that the two left modules are powering one speaker and the two right modules power the other speaker? I have have a bi-amping stereo-set up: - Connecting the pre-amp (XSP-1) to the main input on the XPA Gen 3.
- Using one pair of modules to run the front Sub/bass in each speaker - separate speaker cables to the sub/bass in each speaker
- Using second pair of modules to run the mid-range and treble in each speaker - another set of speaker cables to midrange/treble in each speaker
- Using the fifth module of the XPA Gen3 to run a sub placed in the back of the room to balance out room distortion around 46-48 hz.
Great, however I would like to understand why it works?
Secondly - the power goes from -100 to 0 and then on to +Something. What is "0" (besides being very loud? :-) And how far does the power goes beyond 0 -to +"how much"? The XPA Gen3- does not really kick in before -40 and up and then the curve seems to be fairly exponential - not linear at all. The XPA Gen 3 user-manual is very short and does not explain this.
Thanks! Peter
