Does anyone have a quick summary of the differences, other than $200 and Dirac vs Emo-Q?

EMC-1 has TI chipset vs Cirrus EMC-1 based on XMC platform and operating system code, vs China software on MC-700 EMC-1 control over IP. Infrared only on MC-700 EMC-1 styling is unique, MC-700 matches other Emotiva gear

What "petew" said! I will add that the firmware updating in the MC-700 will now be by USB stick, meaning no more connecting to a computer/laptop running an updater program.

Lots of pent-up demand for both of these. I foresee a big bump in Emo's coffers once they release them.
The EMC-1 might have balanced inputs, but not positive.

I beleive that there will be a difference in the number of HDMI inputs. I think that the Emersa processor only has 4 inputs. The Mc-700 has 6 ( again if memory serves me right)

What about audio outputs?
The UMC-1 can send a digital stereo mix-down out on either toslink or RCA coax, which is not available with (e.g.) the UMC-200. This is useful when you have a PC that can send and receive digital signals (usually from a sound-card and usually toslink), so it's not only possible to have the PC send the digital signal (surround sound to an external processor, like a UMC-x), but also to receive a digital signal for recording purposes - anything connected to the UMC-1 can have its audio recorded on the PC that way. Can't do it with a UMC-200. I think the XMC-1 can do it but that's way too expensive for me to slot into my PC system ;-)
So, will either or both of the EMC-1 and MC-700 have a toslink out? I've tried (experimentally) to record just the front L/R's via their RCA out jacks, into an outboard ADC converter, but I'd have to get a much more expensive and fancy unit to be satisfactory (and I'd rather not do that!)

I think its doubtful Percussionista even with the atmos redesign ; the original emp1 design only had 1 optical and coax input let alone an output and the mc700 has the same complement ; same pcb board utilisation I guess which makes sense from an economy of scale If I had a dvd recorder I would want an optical out too but they seem to have gone by the wayside with other methods for storage available .. www.youtube.com/watch?v=USt8SgHAQ0E&feature=youtu.be

Where are there details for the EMC-1? I search the web and the forum and only see a couple threads that mention it, no actual details or product pages.

EMC-1 was originally intended to be a scaled down version of the XMC-1 with very similar features. XLR outputs were to be omitted, and it had fewer HDMI inputs. It was to be a 7.1 processor.
Emotiva decided that a non-atmos prepro would not be competitive in the market, so went back to the drawing boards. The new prepro is still to be a variant of the XMC-1 foundation, but based upon the upcoming XMC-1 atmos upgrade.
MC-700 baseX 7.1 processor (China manufacture, Cirrus chipset) - currently shipping
All the following are based on TI chipset and made in USA. All will have Dirac included or available
XMC-1 - 7.2 processor - currently shipping XMC-1 - 7.2.4 Atmos upgraded - available to order eventually, or existing XMC-1's can be upgraded at the factory XMC-2 - 7.2.4 new platform with new analog board, all outputs balanced connections and other performance upgrades. New chassis to accommodate the new analog board, so no upgrade path from XMC-1 to XMC-2. No information on expected availability.
EMP-1 - 5.1.2 simplified version of the XMC-1 omitting balanced connections and fewer inputs. No ship date announced RMC-1 - 9.3.4 beast. Rumors and speculation say the prototype will be at CES. No clue on avalibility

I'm assuming the EMC-1 is a typo and we all are meaning the EMP-1. It looks to be a long ways out as priorities have shifted to the XMC changes and the RMC first.
Back to the drawing board
Pete's summary of the features are pretty much all that we have.

So they are not scrapping the Emersa pre pro ? I thought they were? I hope I'm mistaken.

So they are not scrapping the Emersa pre pro ? I thought they were? I hope I'm mistaken. No, it is being reworked for 5.1.2 Atmos. Stated for release the summer of 2017. The stereo unit should come out earlier in the year.

The stereo unit should come out earlier in the year. Does anyone know if the EMP-1 will still be capable of 7.1, or will it only be 5.1.2? Atmos doesn't concern me, but the EMP-1 at 7.1 was what I would upgrade my UMC-1 to... Cheers Tim

That's a standard non-Atmos format, so no way they'll leave that out. You'll be fine.

Hello some of the posts here state the MC700 has already been available and shipping? I ordered one earlier in the month and it should be shipping today. Reason I ask, I would be interested in comments/review from someone who already owns one.

The MC700 is suppose to start shipping today. I don't believe anyone has one yet.

No joy on the shipping. Received an email today (spam folder) with an update stating it will ship by the 15th. Kinda weak to tell the customer on the day it was supposed to ship it could be two more weeks. Surely they knew before today there was going to be a delay. Hitting a 2 week range is perfectly acceptable. Some people are never satisfied
