(The original theory is that the speakers could be in almost any arbitrary location, but the actual products are somewhat more constrained.) As being reported, isn't DTS-X supposed to handle this better?

As being reported, isn't DTS-X supposed to handle this better? Yes Bonzo read similar ;as audioholics says ie using already placed speakers you may have.. I think 1 factor it comes down to is dsp horsepower as to why the xyz coordinated sound objects are fixed in speaker placement as dolby specced to get the tech out quicker than expected . Remenber all those articles that said atmos was years away ? Consider what dsp power is needed for this vv www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/dts-dtsx-object-based-surround-sound-system-released/

Remember there are no dumb question ... I'm still a bit confused on the balanced only outputs. I have an older parasound that I'd like to use when the RMC comes out, will I still be able to do that with an adapter? I'm assuming I'd lose any benefit of being balanced if I do so... if so, would I be better off with the XMC 1, or waiting for the XMC 2? The RMC-1 will ship with XLR to RCA adaptors for use with single ended inputs.

I, for one, was pleasantly surprised at how civil the AVS discussion on the RMC-1 was. Other than the typical "Oh man, I hate xyz (the dial, the color, the height, etc) posts.
Looked as if the RMC-1 may win over some skeptics!
I still have to laugh about comparisons with setups costing factors more though. CEDIA is always fun...
"Don't ask about the retail cost of that setup over there... if you're asking, you can't afford it...."

The RMC-1 will ship with XLR to RCA adaptors for use with single ended inputs. Is that even necessary? Who's going to buy the RMC-1 and want/need to use unbalanced connections? But I guess they're cheap enough you can just toss them in by the handful like candy. I'm still waiting for a thumbnail sketch of what the proposed Expansion Modules will be and, more importantly for my needs, what the Network Music Streaming options will be ... But we have a whole thread dedicated to that, so I should nuggle over there ... :-) Casey

Boy, an unused 40% off would sure take a dent out of the RMC-1's $5K price. I still have mine waiting for the RMC-1 from when I got my UMC-1 way back when. It seems like eons ago now.

I will be balanced to my pair of XPR-1's fronts left and right, also balanced to my XPA-1 gen 2 for my center, balanced to my PSA Triax, finally xlr cables to my SA-250 for rear surrounds. However I will need the xlr to rca for the back rear and 6 Atmos speakers for my basx a-800, seems silly to me to have balanced amps for the low power Atmos speakers but that's just my opinion of course.

My preferred amplifier is single ended input only. So I'd use the adapters, for one.

How does the system setup looks like? Can you choose the same imput for picture two more than one input? Can Emotiva handle more than one Dirac curve? Can you have different presets for your settings? Will there be any parametic EQ that you can use toghter with Dirac? What about the sound quality for two channel audio and cinema sound, can this unit play with the big boys: Trinnov, Datasat, Storm Audio or more against the cheaper processors on the market?
When is the planned release date?

Emotiva's exclusive use of the Griffin Lite in the RMC-1 looks like it was short lived. Denon's processor due 1st Qtr 2018 also contains the Griffin Lite according to this slide

And they're also using the AKM4490EQ ... (Though I could have sworn that someone — Dan? — had said the RMC-1 was going to use a low-power AKM4490EN, but I can't find that reference in the forums nor can I find that part on Asahi Kasei Microdevices web pages anymore.) Interestingly, they're also only showing DSD64 (2.8MHz) and DSD128 (5.6MHz) despite the fact that AKM says the 4490 supports DSD256 (11.2MHz).
Looks like that Denon is going to be a nice product ...

^^^
I think the AKM4490 part used in the RMC-1 is a mobile part, hence low-power.

Yeah, I know, that I had a vague memory that the RMC-1 was going to use the AKM4490EN low-power "mobile" DAC .. and a memory of someone complaining that the "QFN" packages having a higher failure rates ... Ah, here we go: I think the reason Emo/Jade went AK4490EN is for the QFN package vs QFP package of all of the other Asahu Kasei DACs not to mention the cheaper price per tray. Might also be because it support 1.8V digital interface. I've seen a lot higher failure rates with QFN packages vs QFP BTW. Solder joint continuity is a big problem for QFN. If you don't believe me ppl google it. Agilent has a good whitepaper on it. There is a guy named Louis Rossmann on YT that does Apple motherboard repairs and he's constantly resoldering QFN packages or replacing them. Casey

I will still take the RMC over Denon....... As a long time and former Denon owner, agreed. Not to rag Denon, they make some good equipment, but I'll take the RMC for SQ and GUI all day long. Scott

I will still take the RMC over Denon....... As will I ; dirac for 1 ; I did notice that this denon is hdmi2.1 but of course the RMC1 is upgradeable anyway :)hdmi2.0b still covers any 4k source material for many years to come anyway..

Huh, where is the HDMI 2.1 mentioned in the slide pictured above? I didn't see it.
And if that's true, I can almost guarantee you that the Denon won't be available for at least a year ...
