You will be able to purchase the new XPA-1m Gen 3 very soon. Fully balanced, quad differential front end. 16 On Semiconductor 250 watt power devices. Super quiet, fast and powerful. Class H for high efficiency with a new high current SMPS designed especially for the balanced mono blocks. A beast. 600 watts RMS @ 8 ohms 1,000+ watts @ 4 ohms $1,199.00 So how long do the old "heavy iron" versions of the XPA-1 have before they disappear? My prediction...they will have them until they run out of whatever they have in stock because it sounds like the new ones are imminent. Net, if you want some, better get them soon...unless you want to take a chance they will have a closeout sale. Mark

I'm not sure what the performance improvements are. A 600 watt monoblock replaced by another 600 watt monoblock. From gen1 to gen 2 there was a 100 watt improvement along with the class A feature. I guess being lighter to reduce shipping cost can be an improvement but my main concerns revolve around performance first and foremost.

As I am not mistaken, xpa-1 gene 1 also had 600 watts, but it was officially given 500 watts. The additional difference is a decrease in the gain to 29 (but actually it is probably 30)-in gen 2 Yesterday I sold my xpa-1 and I'm waiting for gen3

So are these thing going to share the same chassis? That takes the fun out of Monos.

African or European swallow? Please make sure to ask "what is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow". Oh, and...do they plan to come out with a rock-the-world stand-alone DAC soon? I need one... Mark

I can think of a few others, like International Rectifier, Now owned by Infineon who makes Hexfred Diodes and both IGBT and the Patented HEXFET devices. These are American Made with a huge fab facility in Southern California. Your buddy Bob Carver used IR devices in some of his SunFire amps. You could also have gone with maybe Vishay who makes a broad line of semiconductors and a great line of film resistors.

I have a UPA-2 right now and when and if I get some big speakers from Emotiva I will get two fully balanced, quad differential XPA-1m modules in a Gen 3 box to go with them. Always wanted the "super quiet, fast and powerful" amps that Emotiva builds. My UPA-2 is no slouch but when you got big speaker drivers that need to be man handle during those fast hard fast peaks nothing replaces the power you can get from the XPA-1 and XPR amps. I did not miss the importance of that in the matter. These XPA-1m with "600 watts RMS @ 8 ohms and 1,000+ watts @ 4 ohms" should do the trick to make the T2's sing. I am sold on that and want to believe that it will equal or better the XPA-1 or XPR amps. Maybe the XPA-1 stays as king of the hill in production. I get everyone wanting to sit those monoblocks next to there speakers and be a member of novisnick club. I am going to petition for membership with the XPA-1m if I get them. I think I can payoff Nick for membership.

Im wondering how responsive the meter lights will be to actual output of the new amps. The XPA-1's IMHO are not an accurate representation of output. They bounce all the wayto max without being pushed that far in my opinion. The XRR-1's are much more accurate I think. Just my two cents.

But I can promise the protect LED is very responsive. Serious its a joke, please don't be offended. Lonnie

Nor are they analogue meters, which would be so sweet to gaze at. Seriously. But if your to have meters it would be so nice to have an accurate account of whats happening. If youd like to get serious about the topic, I'd really love a digital readout of watts and ohms in real time if for no other reason that it would be distinct and unique. It would be pretty cool to look at as well. Technically I have no idea how it would be achieved or even be useful but it sure would be COOL!

What's the history of that ? Who knows about good built in power meters on amps ?

No speaker is whatever impedance the meter is 'calibrated' for and than when you factor in real world speaker impedance and reactance? Your CAT may enjoy the meters.
