Did anyone catch this? Am I interpreting it correctly? Am I hoping too much? The 03.24.2017 podcast from about 12:08 to 12:24, Big Dan and Lonnie remark regarding the XPA Gen3 Modular amplifiers to be shown at AXPONA… Big Dan: “....we'll have the double-wide monoblocks, the stereo modules. So, we’ll be showing you multiple configurations of the X-series amplifiers. From full on craziness with multiple amplifiers to a single channel (pause) single chassis solution”
Lonnie: “Yeah.”
Big Dan: “…that will blow your minds.”Hmmm… was the pause a correction or a Freudian slip? Did Big Dan inadvertently reveal that there is going to be a (hopefully smaller, space saving) solution to put one double wide blade with one power supply in a single chassis, yielding a true balanced Gen 3 Monoblock? I sure hope so. KeithL discussed just putting one double-wide module in a XPA chassis in a previous thread, but doing so would be very space inefficient. Those of you going to AXPONA, please report!Oh! Oh! Oh! Gotta ask....If so, will each chassis have an big blue analog meter too??? Asked for fun, but still.... To Big Dan and Lonnie: If this is off and I am listening too much into it, I apologize...well, sort of and a little bit. There has got to be some demand for something like this! I'd buy three and a pair of XPA-5 Gen 3 to go with an RMC-1. I am hyper-critical of the LCR channels and planning ahead to build a house next year. An XPA-3 with three double wides in a single chassis would still be cool and satisficing, but not as cool as three seperate monoblock chassis with meters. C'mon! A new halo-amp! An RPA-1 maybe? ......Or is there something even better underdevelopment in the Emotiva Skunkworks? Hmmm.....gotta have a reference amp for the reference RMC-1 right?

I already alluded to this. Yes you may have.

I see this as being able to equip the XPA gen 3 with a single double wide. I don't see why not.

I'm confused...is this a surprise? They have been saying a new mono is coming and that it is imminent. Seems like the right timing. As I missing something?

KiethL said it is possible for two of these balanced double mono modules to share the same power supply and stay balanced mono. Not completely sure what this means but I been talking about this for awhile. Two XPA-1's in one chassis with the new power supply ?

Not completely sure what this means but I been talking about this for awhile. Two XPA-1's in one chassis with the new power supply ? Axis, Yes you have been talking about it. In my book, a "true" monoblock would be one module and one power supply in one chassis. IMO - it is the optimal solution. I think keithL said so too, but it was splitting hairs. Consider my hairs split. And yes, I do understand the benefits of the new XPA power supply with 2 balanced double wide modules...but, the purist in me wants, one module, one power supply, and one chassis - preferably in a smaller chassis than the current XPA Gen3 chassis. And yes, as always - big blue analog meters. (different subject: And Knobs for volume controls - I am geeked about the RMC knob.) Emotiva has been alluding to a new monoblock. The executive stack shown at CEDIA had little ICE monoblocks. I am looking for a similar solution with the XPA balanced double wide blades. Imagine an amp the size of a A-300, with the power approaching that of an XPA-1 Gen2. That's what I am looking for. ....Even better, one that's half width and a big blue analog meter. - Wrinklemash

The XPA-1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 were the same size externally as the XPA-2, XPA-3, XPA-5 and XPA-7. They stack and rack mounted with symmetry, same width mainly and with the same face. That symmetry continues with the XPA Gen 3 models. The XPA-1L's also had the same width and face. One of the advantages of a monoblock is that we can locate them next to their respective speaker (using long interconnects and short speaker cables). A monoblock, by its very definition, has to be one channel only, otherwise it's not a monoblock. Most importantly doesn't qualify the owner for the membership of the monoblock society. Cheers Gary

I'll be at Axpona all weekend taking notes and vids. I'm keeping a list of questions and requests so I can post up in a separate thread after the show. Scott

As much as I am sure that the people who have them love them, the XPR range was discontinued. I can only think of one reason why, they weren't selling in large enough volume to justify their continuance. My guess is that the average Emotiva customer is price sensitive, there is a limit to what they/we will pay for an item of gear and the XPR range was above that limit. With that in mind I would expect the XPA-1 Gen 3 to be priced accordingly, and therefore be spec'd accordingly.
Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary Low volumes unfortunately due to inadequate marketing or they were just ahead of their time. Also, maybe quality control issues on big heavy amps. Out of the 7 XPR amps that my 2 buddies and I have, 3 went in for repairs so far. Let's say we are all hoping our amps can stand the test of time. I'm not that keen on a switching power supply but I'm sure these new amps are outstanding- Emotiva's bread & butter.

Scott Please make sure to ask "what is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow". Oh, and...do they plan to come out with a rock-the-world stand-alone DAC soon? I need one... Mark

The Shipper incurs more damage and insurance claims. The customer ends up in a hassle getting a good amps shipped and everyone is unhappy. The XPR-1 went over 100lb per, shipped and probably (2.5kva transformer) would really benefit from a 20 amp service, at least, for a stereo pair.

They are a pain to ship no question but that's the world of high end audio. Most high end equipment weighs a lot and costs a lot. The shame about the XPR amps was that it was hard to justify amps that cost more than most typical Emotiva customers' speakers. And the ones that had the high end speakers that would have benefited from the XPR amps, well most of them probably could just buy the equally expensive amps to complement their speakers - they probably weren't budget concerned or constrained. But with the release of the RMC-1, if the high end buyer crosses over to Emotiva, then it probably would have been good to have the XPR amps for the new "believers".

You will be able to purchase the new XPA-1m Gen 3 very soon. Fully balanced, quad differential front end. 16 On Semiconductor 250 watt power devices. Super quiet, fast and powerful. Class H for high efficiency with a new high current SMPS designed especially for the balanced mono blocks. A beast.
600 watts RMS @ 8 ohms
1,000+ watts @ 4 ohms
$1,199.00

Dan, do you know how the new Double-Wide Blades will compare with the original MPS-1? More power certainly. I've been thinking about getting your XPA-3m Gen 3 for my front Left/Center/Right Legacies and mating that with an RMC-1 (or an XMC-2 if I can convince myself to be a bit more sane).
And do you have any samples out to professional reviewers yet? :-)

Now that is a good question. Does beg the question, and comparisons, and contrasts to the XPA-1 current traditional designed Monoblock vs. the new Mono Block XPA Gen 3. Looks like it's going to be allot of fun. Monoblocks take center stage.
