I'm new here. In the market for a new Pre/Pro and was interested in the MC-700 until I ran across this thread. A lot of really good information but unfortunately it doesn't speak to well of this unit. I have heard a lot of good things about the sound quality of Emotiva equipment but could not put up with some of the issues I have seen here. However, I haven't completely written off this model and am very interested to hear what people say after installing this new firmware.
So, to all the beta testers, I hope the software gods are on your side ;-)

It's just their low-priced processors that people stay away from and I can't blame them a bit. Literally every other category of product from Emotiva I've tried is great though.

Odd. I've used 2 different ones and both worked fine. Well you'll have to let me know your trick, because it's not working for me. Keep trying. It's a known issue that it is finicky for many but they don't know why. Try a full format of the drives and/or borrow from friends. Eventually you'll find one that works. I went through a couple before I got one to work.

I feel it’s pretty ridiculous that I need to continue to look for the golden usb drive that will work.

It's a unit you have to have patience with, and that's not for everyone. I assure you if they could figure out and fix the USB problem they would, but they're stumped.

I am using a mac so the formatting of the usb drive is a little different then just FAT-32. I also had to change the partition scheme to "Master Boot Record".

donnyb,
That's great to hear. I have Macs as well so knowing how you solved it is helpful (if I purchase one of these units).

I got it installed and running last night. Seems to have solved the buzz sound issues when switching from DD to LPCM on my PS4. Not sure what else to look for though since I am not sure of all the changes.
I have a couple pointers for those having issues with the USB update. I myself went through 5 different USB drives before getting it to work.
One thing to look for is on the initial power up, after a few seconds, the led on your drive should start flashing. If not try a different one. I had two nearly the same drives, from the same manufacturer, where one would power on and one would not.
Once you get one that has an LED light up, be patient. After you power on the unit form the switch in the back, the front power light will blink yellow then turn steady. Wait and do nothing at this point. After the steady yellow it takes some time before it starts the update.

I haven't had any of the issues that were mentioned as fixed but my initial impression is it seems to switch inputs and sync audio somewhat faster than before. It did get confused a couple of times with my DirecTV box but can't say if that is more frequent or less.
Still sounds amazing, though.

Awesome....can't wait to buy a bunch of USB drives to fix problems that shouldn't exist in the first place. Hopefully this "fix" will solve my ARC issues. I have faith, the last fix solved my BTM issues

Software update done! I used a USB 2.0 formatted Fat 32 dowloaded file to a Mac, USB formatting was previously done on a PC. Just put the update bin file on the root directory do not put it on a folder. Update went smoothly. Already notice some pops are gone an other are attenuated. Still testing

can't wait to buy a bunch of USB drives to fix problems that shouldn't exist in the first place. I had the same problem with Playstation 4. I had to use second USB drive when updating it manually after craptastic 4.70 upgrade earlier this month. So I think this isn't such a rare phenomena in electronics. edit: actually I tried just for fun the usb stick that didn't work with the PS4 and it didn't work with MC-700 either. With everything else it works as I would expect an USB stick to work. Of course the stick that did work with PS4 worked with MC-700 too.

Does anyone know if the new MC-700s ship with the latest V2.9.2 firmware?

Hmmmmm 2.9.2 still exhibits the static pop on Apple TV when going from PCM to DD 5.1 in Netflix Anyone else still have the issue? Just tested the new firmware with my Xbox360. I can confirm that I still get the same blast of digital noise when switching from 2ch PCM to Dolby Digital. This problem is NOT resolved in any way, it behaves exactly the same as 2.9.0. This issue is so easy to replicate that I don't understand how they could call it fixed. Very disappointing.

Just put the update bin file on the root directory do not put it on a folder. Update went smoothly. Already notice some pops are gone an other are attenuated. Still testing I had lot of issues with drives for the first update. This time around I picked this up on Amazon.. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C9Q2IM6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I did not format it, just broke it out of the blister pack, and copied the BIN file to it. 1, Turned off power to the MC 700 at the rear switch. 2. Inserted loaded drive into the machine. 3. Turned power back on at the rear switch, and waited about 30 seconds. (this drive does not seem to have a light). 4. Removed power again at the rear, and then the USB drive. 5. Turned power back on at the rear, then pushed the ON button.. several seconds then V.2.9.2 popped in the display window. Did any of you reset the MC700 after the update? I see where Emo has recommended it in the past.

Wow I just came across this thread, I have had small, annoying issues since I bought my 700 last December and it finally gave up the ghost about three weeks ago. Basically after about half an hour it would go silent and then let out an incredibly loud bang of static that I was sure destroyed my speakers. Thinking that it was a fluke I powered the unit down, gave it about 30 minutes to cool off, powered it back up and continued playing John Wick. Again about 30 minutes into the movie bang, static. Immediately the next day I called Emotiva and told the person on the phone the issue, she sounded really tired and on the edge of not caring, she said it needed a firmware update and that I had to send it back to get it done, I found this a little weird because I thought most modern day components would be able to have their firmware upgraded over the net. It was my fault for not checking on here first before sending it in for the update but I think it may be more involved than a simple upgrade. I have owned 9 pieces of Emotiva equipment over the years and I have to say the 700 has me a little leary of buying one of there processors again. The three week wait time to get my processor back doesn't help either but if it gets the unit working again it will be worth it. Thanks guys, I figured I should post my experience.
