I jsut picked up a pair of vintage pioneer CSA-31 speakers but heck if I can't find any info on them. I know they are from late 60s, are 16 ohm (!) - well the woofer and tweeter are; the mid is 8 - and I think are 40w. I will post my pics soon but these cabinets are pretty. They will need refinishing and I will take a look at the innards soon.

Geez Allen,
How you ever gonna afford my G 9000 if you keep buying everything in sight? What happened with that other deal you told me about?

which deal? I think I've moved on . . if it was the Sansui receiver, someone beat me to the punch. I got there as fast as I could but you were right, it was fine to buy the lot toi get that Sansui receiver. No worries. Win some, lose some.
I did recently score some highly desriable Adcom gear, at least it was for me. Adcom was the pinnacle and all I could afford in graduate school. I loved the sound back then.
Anyway, I found this guy on Craigslist from an outlying city that was selling a GFA-555 mkII and a GFP 565 preamp. Yeah, that one. Turns out he was throwing in a BUNCH of other stuff. Two pair of Tara Labs ICs (one as think as a small garden hose) and a paradigm center channel (CC-300) needing a tweeter replacement.
All for $330. I thought it was scam or stolen equipment, Well, come to find out it was the real deal., He had the original manuals and the stuff worked perfectly. The GFA is the rather uncommon version with the detachable cord . . . Oh, what to do , , , ,
lol

I hooked my GFA-555 II up to my magnepans in march and was impressed with how good it still sounds after all these years. I also owned one of their GFP-565 pre amps at one time. Nice piece of gear and you got a steal on that equipment for those prices.

Come on guys. There must be more vintage gear owners on this board.
Show us your stuff.
Rather,
Have you gotten into those CSA's yet?

Come on guys. Show us your stuff. You need to choose your words wisely. Some people could actually manipulate your words to mean something totally out of context.

I have gone through many many old sansui and pioneer receivers & amps in the past few years and have ended up with just a sansui AU-717 2 channel amp. It is sooo sweet... ;D When I learn how to post pics I'll get it up...

Does an Anthem AVM-20 count as vintage? I just bought one to hold me over until the XMC-1 comes out. My Rotel RSP-985 is getting retired, still works and sounds great though.

I still have three high end , 3 head, 3 motor cassette decks which are nice pieces of gear but hardly ever get used. They all still work great though. Remote controls and everything. I don't have to worry about finding blank tape either. I literally bought a lifetime supply at Sams Club probably 10 years ago. They had Maxell XLIIs and TDK SA cassettes on sale cheap and I stocked up big time. I bet I have 200 brand new blanks here yet. I'll never use them all. someday I will ask to buy a few of those. . . still haven't hooked up the Nak I nought all those months ago . .

A couple of places to get vintage gear in Texas: A few months ago I was at the Fredericksburg Tradeshow and there was a guy selling some decent vintage gear as well as albums and vintage swag. He had an old Sansui quad receiver last time I was there. In Borne there's an antique consignment shop that has vintage gear, I saw a Fisher receiver once, not sure if it was tube or not, probably not. In Katy Mall there is/was a vintage audio store that had/has some great gear, they advertise on Houston's Craiglist from time to time, with some decent stuff.
I've thought of doing a vintage set up in my bedroom but, my tastes are way bigger than my budget. I would love to have a vintage tube McIntosh set-up with maybe a set of Carver Amazing Speakers. I think I'd have a hard time getting out of bed though.

Rather , I think you called your self the village idiot -which is wrong my friend , I think you should call your self the vintage guru Unfortunately he always PMs me for advice . I keep telling him to stop all this nonsense, so he can buy my restored, upgraded, modified Sansui G 9000!! Or what I like to call....cleaned, preened, and remachined!! ;D New Gold RCAs Pre amp switch hardwired to remove from the circuit path. Spring clip terminals replaced with 5 way binding posts. In addition to what is pictured, all solder joints were redone. New rectifiers, capacitors, resisters, and any other parts that needed replacing were replaced, in addition to a good cleaning......which ended up costing just a little over $400.
