DC-2 has been announced, what do we know about it and what are our hopes?

I imagine it will still be half width and fully balanced. I'm hoping for a 1/4" headphone output.

Should it be just a DAC or perhaps add MQA to it creating a streamer? Tidal?

MQA should (at most) be an add-on extra because I don't want it.

DSD support for 1X, 2X and 4X streams. 32 bit 384K decoder and a natural enhancement of the DC-1.
Available in the 3rd quarter.

KeithL has stated Emotiva's position on MQA in many past threads. I would not look for it in the DC-2 unless Emotiva changes there mind. Still reads like a religion to me. You guys can do what you want but I will not be paying for anything like MQA. My CD's and Flac files sound great and even when I put on a record full pops and cracks, it still sounds great to me. Demand that future music is recorded good in the first place and do not pay them more to do it. Seems to me there are enough customers for music these days that if the Music industry figured out things right then they could make good money and we could have great sounding recordings. Taking a piece of music that was recorded on a tape deck 30 years ago and playing with it after you turn it into 1's and 0's is silly to me. You can coat it with unicorn tears and I still would not buy it.

How about an add-on enclosure to make the unit full width 1U high?

My pressing question is how different/better it will sound from the DC-1? I'm assuming DAC chips alone have progressed quite a lot but it all comes down to the implementation and myriad other engineering choices.

You know, recycle like they did with the MC-700. But this time charge you twice as much.

How about an add-on enclosure to make the unit full width 1U high? They have a rack mount for the DC-1 although it's 1.5RU. It can hold one unit centered or you can mount two side by side in the included alternate face plate. Wouldn't be surprised if the DC-2 can use the same kit.

Yes, im familiar with this unit but I was thinking of an enclosure as to make it stackable vs an open top.

I'm hoping that the DC-2 will come close to the features and performance of the Benchmark DAC3 HGC, but given that it will probably cost about a third of the DAC3 I certainly don't expect a DAC3 clone from Emotiva. Still, I'm in the market for a decent DAC, and I came close to buying the DAC3 HGC recently. I'm jonesing for a good DAC at a good price. Emo, don't let me down!

This is true. The benchmark is not what I would go for. Well, the Benchmark is about the same physical size as the DC-1, and probably the DC-2 also, so it can't be all bad! Yes, the Benchmark is not the best choice for home use partly because it has internal jumpers that might need to be changed and apparently some volume setting quirks, but it is used in many recording studios so it must be good, eh?

I would recommend you try the DC-1. It has all the features and performance you need right now ! Podcast 06.02.17 says the DC-2 will be available in the 3rd quarter, with enhanced capabilities, and (of course!) a slightly higher price. So I gotta wait and go for the DC-2. Or should I wait for the DC-3? (kidding!)
