I am in the market right now for a new DAC for my 2.1 channel rig. I'm in the $600 to $1000 dollar range. Moving my XDA-2 to my headphone rig leaves the door open for something new .. Any updates on the release of the DC-2? Any recommendations if the DC-2 isn't available before Christmas? WiFi streaming would be nice but not a deal breaker.
Thanks Steve

If the DC-2 doesn't make it out in time for you, you could check out the Schiit Multi-bit dacs. But keep in mind, you'd also need a preamp for volume control, etc.

Stealth DC-2 - What do we know? We know it STILL isn't here yet. We know that the RMC-1 will almost certainly come out first. We know that the RMC-1 is STILL being twiddled with and may not be out before Christmas. So maybe the first or second quarter of '19 may see the DC-2 release (or not). Sigh...
The only bright spot on the horizon is that the DC-2 is supposed to have a switchable 80 Hz. high-pass filter built in for its main outputs with a full-range (but volume controlled) pair of outputs for a subwoofer feed. Please, PLEASE, Emotiva, keep this feature! If you wanted to make that full-range, volume-controlled output pair into a low-pass 80 Hz. one, it wouldn't offend me, either.
Other requests - PLEASE don't use a Sabre DAC. PLEASE keep the same form-factor as the DC-1 (and the PA-1 amps). PLEASE spend what it takes to maximize sound quality (we're willing to pay slightly more for the better parts). And PLEASE maintain the balanced circuitry as you did with the DC-1. Finally, PLEASE send me a pre-release unit for review!!! LOL

What I love about it most is that it's not fatiguing at all and it has a very full sound. The DC-2 sounds interesting and has my attention for sure. I'm leaning towards a Schiit DAC for my head phone system now and ugrading the 2 channel rig later after the Holidays.

The Mytek Liberty that I reviewed had a Sabre, and for some reason, sounded GREAT. My Oppo UDP-205 with a Sabre, however...

I doubt you will see a Sabre in the DC2 - not only based on what was shown at Emofest but based on the direction Emotiva is going with the XMC and RMC lines. I expect the same brand of chips and possibly the same types. Mark

Love my Oppo 105 with its Sabre DACs, fits my system well. I loved my Oppo 105 too - which is why it was such a letdown to get a 205 (expecting an audio improvement) and instead get an avalanche of Sabre glare.

Depending on the exact implementation, and whether you use the built-in filters or external ones, DACs designed around the Sabre DAC chips have varying degrees of the "Sabre house sound".
DACs with a "strong Sabre flavor" sound as if the upper midrange and lower treble is somewhat boosted (frequency response measurements show that it actually is not). People who like that sound describe it as "a little bright" or "extremely detailed"; people who don't like it describe it as "grainy" or "etched". (In my mind it is the audible equivalent of what a TV picture looks like when you turn the "sharpness" control too high.)
I've heard units that use Sabre DAC chips that sound quite normal - and quite like any other good quality DAC. However, others sound quite different (I had a Wyred4Sound DAC2 and it sounded distinctly different).
Stealth DC-2 - What do we know? We know it STILL isn't here yet. We know that the RMC-1 will almost certainly come out first. Any chance a Cirrus Logic DAC chip could be implemented here? I absolutely love the tone of my Sherbourn PT-7020C4 and SR-120 receivers. In fact I have even bought the 7020C4 for my two channel set ups. I am selling my XDA-2's off since replacing them. There is just something about the sound those Sherbourn produce. I was looking at the Cirrus site yesterday and it sounds like they are still producing similar chips.

The DC-2 will be using AKM DAC chips. Ah, but which ones? The AK4490ENs that you're using in the RMC-1 have been superseded by the new AK4493EQ ( news release) ... Casey

Casey I don't know which chips they will use, but Dan and Lonnie were confident at Emofest that the DC-2 would be a considerable step up from the DC-1. I told them it would take that to get me to move from my Geek DAC, and they said "maybe we should get you one to try". I'd be open to that! Would love to have an early version to try and give them a direct comparison. Mark
