My guess is that the G4 processors may support more channels and that Emotiva will offer a very fair upgrade from the G3 to the G4.
But I can’t see any way they expand the RMC-1 to more than 16 channels. I just don’t think it has the horse power to make it all work out.

…I don't want to continue waiting for something if they already know isn't coming... I agree with this. I believe that they underestimated the project. (Any thing else would be fraudulent… and I just don’t get that feel from this outfit). I suspect that the firmware is not as straight forward as they thought. Perhaps they hit a hiccup in hardware. Maybe both. In any case, The past suggests that they have trouble estimating the time things take. So they stay silent as they are between a rock and a hard place … to do anything but give out another optimistic guess might lose them the revenue needed to develop it … but giving out a date and missing it again might be just as bad.

I believe that they underestimated the project. I'm a software engineer myself, so I'm more than familiar with underestimating effort. And I'm also familiar with passing up a promised deadline with virtually nothing to show for it. Communication is always the solution in such cases. A lot has changed since the RMC-1 was developed. It totally makes sense that "more than enough" 5 years ago is "not even close to enough" today. But if that's the case, they knew it a long time ago. I'm hoping that the "big announcement" coming just before Christmas has something to do with the new Dirac Spatial Room Correction, and its ability to use all 28 channels... That would certainly require a hardware overhaul to support, I think. They're dealing with a lot of third-party licensing, and Emotiva's promises are dependent on a lot of outside promises that they have zero control over. I get that. But over-communication is always going to foster more trust than under-communication. I'd rather get regular updates on what they're working on, with the possibility that some things may be dropped, than have complete silence until they announce a release... And then more silence when the time frame passes without an actual release...

First, I agree with all you have said. Always hopeful, while not relying on any of if. I have my 8805 stand-in unit (it actually works better than expected). If Emotive has the goods when time comes to step up the channel count they might get the nod … but I’m expecting that there is to be an explosion of competition if it’s a third party hiccup … I.E. everyone is waiting for it to break the 16 channel barrier .. just a guess.

Just saw video on YouTube from That Home Theater Dude titled “Emotiva Audio What’s New for 2023?” and the guy mentioned towards the end of the video that they will be bringing an expansion module “soon” to add more channels as well as other “fun things” such as a module that adds a higher quality DAC for 2ch music listening. That’s the first time I heard of the DAC.
Based on the lack of recent activity of this thread, maybe folks have moved on or have taken an “I’ll believe it when I see it” mentality.
