Also geebo - I plan to add JRiver to my tablet to use it as the controls to send tunes from my NAS to the Volumio. I think I can do this with the Pi wired...need to confirm. If not, I'll be using TuneBlade...that would be wireless. I just have not had time the last couple weeks to try that out. Mark I have jRiver on my laptop and jRemote om my iPad. I also have a NAS. I can send files from my NAS using the laptop and jRiver to my Oppo 203. My Oppo is connected to a wireless bridge which I will connect the Pi to as well. It's all wireless from there.

But the bridge is wireless to the main router.

Maybe this weekend..."who does #2 work for!?!?!?!?!?" Mark

Can Volumio/Pi not grab files from the NAS by themselves? How would you throw from jRiver? Does Volumio/Pi show up as a renderer to jRiver?

I tried, and it appears Volumio is "picky". No matter what I entered, I got an error and my NAS could not be found. If you sort it out let me know as that would be very direct and I would like it. That said, from what I understand, Volumio "should" show up as a renderer to JRiver. My PC's all see it. But, I have not had time to try making it work. I have been busy planning retirement details and with Scout things. I hope to try it this weekend. Mark

Just got the Pi up and running with Volumio. I had no problems with it seeing, cataloging and playing the files on my WD NAS. Attached a thumbdrive and it plays from there too. Also seems to work fine wired or wireless. I've not yet tried to see if it shows up in jRiver but I'll try that after I button it all up. So far I'm very pleased with it and may even have to get a second one some day soon.

My NAS is attached to a computer on my network. All my other PC's can easily see it and access the music. But, I couldn't get the Pi to find it. Is your NAS attached to a computer or your router? Or, something else? I've been a bit pre-occupied with retirement planning to dig into it. Mark

No issues at all with it. Took a little time to catalog the files but wasn't too long.

Got it...from what I was reading, that's really the best way to do it for Volumio. But, that involves moving some things around and re-setting up some things. I'll get to that after I close the pool, cut the grass one last time, and get a few more of my "to-do's" done. The things I have to do just to get ready for retiring makes a fairly long list on its own! Mark

Mark, congratulations on joining the club of retirees! Now you too will get to experience how busy and rewarding retirement can be. Just think of all the added time that might be available with you audio equipment....
Enjoy!
Cheers!

Selected it and sent some music files from my NAS and it just worked right out of the gate. All in all a pretty easy little project that works better than I would have expected. Money well spent.

Mark Sometimes my Oppo takes a few minutes to show up and I've also had to shut it down along with stopping the media server in the system tray to get it to show up. Didn't have that trouble with the Pi but that's not to say I won't. Now my TV always shows up and it's the one thing I never use with jRiver.

I did notice Volumio took a bit to appear in my list of network devices the first time I set it up. Now, it shows right up. It may have been the same thing with jRiver. It's working now and that's all I care! I need to spend more time listening the next few days. Between being so busy and having a sinus infection, I've not had time or clear ears to listen with. So far, the Pi and Sennheisers and BasX A100 are sounding nice. Mark
