How about LMS, it's free and have you have several options for a RPI. Tidal works fine with that. What is LMS? Searched it an found no hits related to the topic. Mark Logitech Media Server? The best product Logitech killed. IMHO.

^Nice! I'd love it if came with a CD-ROM for adding more muzak. You could always add a USB-connected external drive! But, I have a PC on my system that I use to rip CD's to FLAC onto a NAS. (That's my office desktop for when I need to do serious typing and cyphering...) And, JRiver retrieves and plays the FLAC files for me nicely. So, now I can play my own collection on either of my 2 critical listening systems (or all around the house on Sonos) via JRiver and tap into a bigger world of TIDAL on either system easily. It seems the biggest issue I was having is that TIDAL's Windows app just doesn't see DLNA devices like other players do. So, when you go into its settings, you don't get the options you do w/other approaches and can't select the DLNA devices. JRiver sees my Volumio Pi and my Oppo 105 and everything else...but Tidal...? No. And, I don't see anything that obviously overcomes this w/o other issues or more it savvy than I have to set it up. Mark

^Nice! I'd love it if came with a CD-ROM for adding more muzak. Well, this turned into the shortest experiment with techie stuff I ever had. I picked it up around 1:30, got home and started hooking it up. All seemed fine at first as it went through its paces firing up, asking me questions to personalize it, etc. But, after a couple mouse clicks, the mouse and keyboard started responding really slowly...so slowly, I thought the batteries had died. I swapped batteries - still slow. Then I learned I had to be within ~2-3 feet of the unit for the keyboard/mouse to work (the same keyboard/mouse that works well from 15' away on another PC). I thought maybe that was just because something was happening in the background, so I cut that some slack and let it do the rest. It started updating. Not unusual at all...often items are sitting long after manufacturing and need some updates. It went into a long Windows 10 update, and near the end - it failed. Then, it asked to re-do it. I said "sure". After a very long time, it said it was "out of space" to finish the upgrade. And, the keyboard/mouse were still unresponsive unless I was within 2-3 feet. Fortunately, my daughter had a soccer game near where I bought it, so I took it back and got a full refund. I seriously can't believe what a piece of junk it was. Well, my search continues... Mark

Oh no! That's a shame. Maybe consider a non-Windows unit like the vortexbox? I've been thinking about it but am undecided as I know Windows but not Linux.

I've had great luck with Windows machines until this. I either got a defective one or the unit is just a poor choice. Sad because it looked pretty cool. I just found a cheap Dell w/Windows 10 Pro ($129! And new!) So, I bought that. We'll see what that does. What I would really love is a clone of my old Dell 660, but those can't be found readily. The are totally silent, very reliable, and cheap. Mark

Found this... ---> SEE IT HERE! <---This is very close to what I already have but it has Windows 10 Pro on it. And, for $126, it's a deal. So, now I'll have a little PC driving sound at the main system and my secondary (mainly headphones) system. Now - to plot the course for what to do with the Pi...thinking of doing a "magic mirror" to display our calendar, weather details, etc. Mark

Linux (ubuntu versions) is not that hard to learn & work with. Lots of help on www. Vortexbox is Fedora and a little bit of a learning curve with my limited experience. What is nice about VB is once it's xn'd forget about it, it just works on your network via a browser- pc or cell ph. I also like Daphile- the GUI interface is nicer, easier than Logitech Squeeze

And, the Remote Desktop app makes it super-easy to control my other Windows PC's from my Surface Pro 3. And, if I am running my key music players (JRiver and Tidal) from a PC direct to my DAC's - performance is great. And, at this point, I've decided I want zero learning curve to spend more time enjoying music than learning something new. Mark
