I thought I’d give my good friends on the Lounge a sneak peek at the new XPA Differential Reference Series amplifiers! These beautiful new amplifiers will be shipping the first week of January and we’ll be taking pre-orders next week. Look for them on the site by Wednesday of next week. The new XPA DR-1 will develop well over 600 watts RMS into 8 ohms. The XPA DR-2 will output well over 550 watts RMS into 8 ohms, two channels driven, and the XPA DR-3 will deliver over 450 RMS into 8 ohms with all three channels driven. These are all low distortion, full bandwidth power specs. Pricing from $1,199.00 to 1,999.00. DR-1: DR-2: DR-3: Cheers, Big Dan.

Dan, in terms of Sound Quality, how would you rate these against the MPS-1? In particular, in the area of Bass Control? I know that they're far more powerful, but that's not an issue for my fairly efficient speakers ...

You mean we have to wait all the way until next Wednesday to see pictures of the innards? Oh the agony......the pain!!!!! I'm being facetious. Looks like some really nice hardware.

Dan, just wondering since the chassis is obviously full size even for a single channel. For the mono, two channel and three channel as shown why not use a smaller chassis? It think it would have been cool beans to have little bar monoblocks that don't take up an entire audio shelf.
Obviously if there was a reason for them being built this way i totally understand. They sound like a threesome of powerhouses. Congrats!
Tim
Also, does this mean the XPA-1 as we know it now will be discontinued or phased out?

I'm assuming these are the modular monoblock blades? They look nice.

Okay, so just how does the XPA-DR-1 differ from the XPA-1 Gen 2, which is also advertised as a "DIFFERENTIAL REFERENCE CLASS A/AB MONOBLOCK POWER AMPLIFIER", , described as "fully balanced, fully discrete, quad differential, ultra high current, short signal path selectable Class A/AB," and spec'ed at 1,000 watts RMS @ 4 ohms and 600 watts RMS @ 8 ohms/ Are they the same product with different names and cosmetic properties, or are they really different from each other?
Amyone?

Amyone? That was why I asked Dan after he posted to see if this is the end of the XPA-1 as we know it. This sure looks like a direct replacement.

Looks like you can forget 4 ohms loads because they're bridged modules. May I ask, without getting pummeled, do they have linear/toroidal power supplies?

Amyone? I'm pretty sure I read in a previous thread about these pre-release, in which Dan chimed in & said they were set to be equipped with a switch mode power supply, but then they had to revamp it ("Super Duper SMPS")to get the performance they wanted out of it hence some delay- but the latter is more my conjecture. Everything else I believe is same as you mentioned but we'll see soon! mgbpuff I'm not sure about 4 ohm loads since it seems they stitched 2 blades together, but if It stands to be a replacement for the gen 2 it'd have to be able to manage that load or even less one would imagine
