Looks like the new XMC-1 will be a great next iteration, hopefully not too expensive though!
1. Echoing earlier posts -- I do enjoy the UMC-1's logical input mapping flexibility. On the legacy input argument, however, perhaps just keeping a UMC-1 and connecting its HDMI output to the XMC-1 would suffice for those of us with a VCR, Nintendo 64, Wii, or other legacy sources?
2. Any talk of HD/digital FM radio? I admit I use my UMC-1 to listen to over the air radio a lot.
3. I'm finally up to a 5.1 system, maybe 7.1 someday if surrounds built into the ceiling, so I like having a pre-pro with high-end DACs and processing without necessarily paying for a large number of output channels.

I'm pretty sure that's a typo. They meant to say "RMC-1" and not "XMC-1" (in reference to the $5k price). It also says it's a( XMR-1 ) and that it's a receiver

I'm hoping this comes out sometime this year. My GF and I are potentially going to buy a house and I want to build a theater in it. This is the pre-processor I want. Looked great when I saw it at CES.

Hhmmm, looks like the XMC-1, Gen3 will have some competition that may grab Bonzo's eye. Sound and Vision just reported on the new Marantz AV8805 also using the AK4490, 13 channels, and HDMI 2.1 ... Apparently available late February for $4499. Casey

Who needs a pro to do REW? Mark Nobody. I was able to balance out my sub using the built in controls and REW to take measurements in about 1/2 hour. - Rich

I don't need a pro to do REW for me but I do have a lot of customers that need professional help calibrating their systems because they don't have either the time or the knowledge to do it.

pro or not, bourbon does help aid the process (within limits).

Unfortunately, I have lost that optimism. The Marantz will be out in February.

Again, to me there is more than Atmos and 4K. With the XMC-1 you get a MUCH better room EQ system (Dirac) compared to what you get with Marantz/Denon. You also get two presets totally configurable with REW. Plus the promise of Atmos and 4K upgrade. Yes, one year late but it will arrive any time soon. When I made my decision for the XMC-1, I had in my place a Marantz SR7008 + Parasound Halo P5 combo and an Anthem AVM60. I choose the XMC-1 over the AVM60 and over any Marantz/Denon with Audyssey XT32 + SubEQ HT not because the XMC-1 future upgrade promises, I choose the XMC-1 only because in terms of sound, it's miles ahead of any Marantz/Denon and Anthem pre pro or receiver I ever owned or listened to. Future upgrade promises are a bonus for me.

To me Atmos + DTSX + Auro + 4K + REW easily beats DIRAC + waiting for an undisclosed amount of time (~ a year so far) for 4K and Atmos and DTSX and who knows about Auro. Put another way, for ~ a year I could have been watching 4K (without stress) listening to Atmos, DTSX and Auro via a Marantz or watching 2K and listening to inferior non object oriented movie mixes via an XMC-1. Sound quality is not superior on the XMC-1 if it can’t even process it. Cheers Gary
