Got my board today, $680aud landed, no gst, no duty Mine was a bit over $A900, so same as yours plus $US20 for the silver (Gen 1) trims, plus $US100 for the install, plus the freight was more because it was an XMC-1 (not just a board). Cheers Gary

I think it's time to plunge, so I did. Just ordered the V3. I have a pj, so no DV . My OPPO is the 105, so no HDR through that. Will probably get a 203 sooner than I should . . . you know, just because. But I do have an ATV4K! So . . .

I waited too long. I knew this day was coming but thought it would be in a couple more months. Thanks for the bad news. I guess I'll just get a Panasonic or Sony then, just for the movies. Well, at least that'll save me some money! Bummer.

Use this link to register for a potential last batch of 203s. They did it with the 205 and last week I got an email with my order link but I opted out because I have the 203 already and that's more than I need. www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-udp-203/lastbatch.aspx

But, there's a couple things that make this an uphill journey. The first being this list is just a place-holder for "if there's enough interest we will make more", it's not a sure thing. The second thing is, I'm getting antsy for wanting to get a player right away now that I've gotten the shipping notice for the board. The player that's on the top of the list right now is the Sony UBP-X700. I'm kinda thinking that I'll get one this weekend. Definitely maybe. Most likely. Absolutely probably.

Just in the process of connecting up the XMC-1, when it's done I'll confirm how they function together. Gotta go to work now, but when I get home tonight I should have it all set up Cheers Gary

The best PQ player right now is the Panasonic UB-820. But it is difficult to get in the US.
Another option to the Sony player is the LG UBK90 for around the same price.

Thank you very much bootman and enricoclaudio! Those are very good recommendations.
I had some time today to read some reviews. The last time I did this was about 3-4 months ago when things started percolating regarding the "imminent" release of the V3. Back then 1st on my list was the OPPO, 2nd was the Sony x700. Today I saw quite a few very good reviews on LG. That Panasonic UB820 seems great also, and a review I just read spoke about a flagship model from Panasonic coming late in the year.
So here's where I'm at. I am interested in getting a player that does all the video including DV (if projectors can do DV at some point), but not right now, it'll be later. For right now I'm going to get a stripped down HDR10 player with no streaming. My projector only does HDR10, and the Apple TV4K does everything streaming and I love the interface. So the non-air-conditioned, no power steering, HDR10 player that got really good reviews is the LG UP870/875 (they're both identical, just a different wrapper). I'm gonna try it and see what happens. If things don't work out then I might only go one rung up for now and get the Sony, or wait till later in the year and get the Panasonic DP-UB9000 due in the USA later in the year. . . . . Or just get the UB820 and be done, for now.
This is shooting in the dark for me until I install the V3 on Friday and see if it likes my HDMI cable. My Monoprice 50 ft Luxe Series CL3 Active High Speed Premium HDMI Cable. The one that the ATV4K can push 3480x2160, 23.97, 12bit 4:2:2, BT.2020 HDR directly to Epson 5040UB. But with the XMC-1 in the way, frankly I'm only expecting 10bit 4:2:0.

Blu ray players are to me one of those "expendable" pieces of gear that almost always goes out of date technically before they wear out. My previous player was a Panasonic, still going strong in the family room, but the ability to play SACD's, its picture quality and outstanding value for money swung me over to the Sony.

Over at AVS I’ve read that the Sony X700 should get a Dolby Vision firmware update, but the X800 probably won’t, don’t know about the others. Yeah, the X800 has 2.0a output so it isn't upgradeable by firmware . . . and I'm not absolutely certain yet, but the X700 might already have the DV update. Not so sure why people think a 2.0a board can’t be updated to support Dolby Vision. My 2016 series LG C6 came with a 2.0a board and supported Dolby Vision out of the box and, later, received a firmware update to support HLG. Denon, Marantz, Yamaha and Anthem (among others) also upgraded their 2.0a equipped receivers and processors to support DV and HLG as well. So, to me, it’s not a matter of “not” being able to upgrade the X800, but more of the matter of them not wanting to do so. They’d just rather build that capability into a newer model and make you buy that. Just my $.02, but that’s just how Sony (among others) seems to work...

I was just noticing that a couple players that had 2.0a were not "able" to be updated, but like you say, they probably don't want to update those. Thanks for posting this.

Neither the Sony X800 nor the X1000 list Dolby Vision; the X700 shows its support right at the top of the features, and I think it is included now. www.sony.com/electronics/blu-ray-dvd-players/t/blu-ray-disc-playersMost "mainstream" manufacturers focus on next year's model and do not upgrade current models except for compatibility with current discs as required (and sometimes not even then). Oppo stood above most of them; with Oppo gone, who knows if they'll feel the need. It would be nice if one of them decided to do regular updates, forcing the others to follow. Hard to say if encouraging brand loyalty through longevity is a win for the bottom line. Probably better keeping people on the yearly'ish upgrade path through new units. Blah.

Exactly true... it was never “promoted” or “promised” as a feature. I purchased an X800 when they were first introduced to use in my living room setup. At that time, it was “rumored” that Sony was planning to add Dolby Vision through a firmware update, but that never came to pass. Since their own TVs didn’t support Dolby Vision, there was no motivation for them to do so. Fast forward to today and it’s now a different story, but there’s also newer models than the X800 available and time only marches forward for them. There’s no hope for the X800 ever supporting Dolby Vision (even though it technically can), so if it were me, I’d look elsewhere if Dolby Vision support is wanted or needed.
