Great! I bought the Sonica DAC and two Sonica Speakers. No more support, I guess.

They say they will still honor updates and such, but I can only imagine that is short term

Sort of wonder if any optical Movie/TV formats will be manufactured by 2028? Streaming uncompressed HD or UHD is a ways out but I do worry quality might go the way of lossless audio and consumers will be okay with less than ideal fidelity. I have to agree with Boomzilla about the Oppo's DAC implementation and voicing - I found it fatiguing.

Well, to be honest, I thought that the various *5 Oppo players were always a bad idea. People who buy high-end DACs are just too fussy.
I thought that their normal *3 players were fabulous, easy to use, beasts. I especially love the way they handle Firmware upgrades and I wish Emotiva would do Firmware upgrades the same way.
If I were buying Oppo's IP, I'd do it just for the dedicated *3 players.

what a shame. I always felt their products were very solid and worth the extra money for the *03 model (as other have put it). Their entry level DVD and Blue Ray players are excellent high quality transports that I always felt were worth the money.
I have not and will not jump on the 4K bandwagon, but I expect another decade of service from my BDP-103at least.

Very surprising, I am glad I have a very nice 203 excellent Blu-ray player.

I have two Oppo 103 players. Prior to that I had the BDP-80. Never have had a lick of problem with any of them. Too bad they don't see a way forward with new products but thats the way things happen sometimes.

Wow. Hard to believe. But I do remember at emofest back in Franklin that Dan said, no need to enter the dvd market with Oppo doing it so well. Well, ??

Wow, what a shock. My 93 stills works just as perfectly as it did the day I bought it.
I was planning on moving up to 4K once the technology matured. Looking forward to a 213 or 303 player. But now, with Blu-Ray stalling, I don't see any reason to upgrade from my 93 and 1080p anytime in the foreseeable future.
Goodbye OPPO Blu-Ray players, death of a legend.

OK, telling it like I see it, the constant, ongoing and somewhat unnecessary HDMI and HDCP standards changes are just too expensive for niche manufacturers to keep up with. So many ordinary people still have SD, let alone HD and for them UHD isn't even on the radar, whilst all the talk is about SUHD. We have seen/experienced it with the XMC-1, it's next to impossible for a small to medium niche manufacturer to launch products in a timely and controlled manor. The question I have is is it deliberate? Are the major manufacturers trying to force out the small to medium manufacturers by constantly moving the goal posts for no good reason?
Cheers Gary

This sucks. I’ve owned a 103 and now 203. Problem is mainstream buyers want to pay as little as possible. $549 and up is more than most wil pay.
So sad.

I think Parasound abandoned their HDMI 1080p Pre/Pro project due to the nearly endless race to support formats and standards. It sure is a compelling reason for the majors to keep the fanatical pace.

Between growing up CRT and being thrilled with the picture from my $500 60" LG plasma, I paid $75 for my Blu-ray player. Works just fine for me. It always cracked me up watching people trying to hawk used 105s for over a grand, but I guess like a guy I worked with once told me when I told him I thought his used car was overpriced, "There's an ass for every seat."

You just proved my point. I went through two crappy Sony bluray players that were never firmware updated and finally went for the 103 which was fantastic. To each his own.
