It has been 14 years since we established OPPO Digital in the United States, and with the support of our customers, technical partners, and movie/music studios, we produced many award-winning Hi-Fi audio products and universal disc players, spanning three generations from DVD, Blu-ray, to 4K UHD.
As our latest 4K UHD players reach the pinnacle of their performance, it is time to say goodbye. We are proud to have made such well-regarded products and to have served the enthusiast community. Without our customers' suggestions, encouragement, and support, we could not have accomplished these achievements. www.oppodigital.com/farewell.aspx

What a shame but it was bound to happen given the less expensive products flooding the market. People still rent more DVDs than Blurays which leaves 4k as a niche market imho. I will covet mine for years to come.

What on earth are they going to make if they don't make any new products? Does the company make any other products?

Reminds me of Pioneer Kuro. Top rated television and discontinued. Very hard to sell quality when there are cheaper alternatives , we are a throw away society sadly. It has been going on since the beginning, beta vs vhs etc. We blieve what we are told instead of what our eyes tell us, still lovin my plasma, only way i can watch hockey.

Wow.
Although Ive always thought 4K discs will be the last physical format. After that there won't be new disc players to make. So this isn't as surprising as I might have thought.
Something like this could just as easily happen to Emotiva too. Those 5 year warranties and such are no guarantee of anything.
But wow, still a bummer. Hate when any company in this industry goes out.

Wow indeed. I thought initially it was a bad April 1st joke, but that’s looking less likely now ...

OTOH - If you've ever WANTED a used Oppo, now may be the time. Either prices will soar or crater as a result of this announcement...
(and I TOLD you that the Sabre DAC in the UDP models sounded sucky!).

Yep, I am in no hurry to jump to 4k. With five Panasonic plasma televisions I am still a happy camper.

I’m three behind you with two plasmas. That’s the whole house, and having grown up CRT I’m content.

The Sabre DAC in the Oppo UDP-205 sounds worse than a $99 AudioQuest Dragonfly! Really.
OTOH, the Sabre DAC in the Mytek Liberty sounded as good as the Emotiva Stealth DC-1. So I'm not sure that we can just blame Sabre...
The bottom line is that Oppo positioned themselves as "the audiophile disc player," suitable for both movies (taking on all comers) and audio. But they dropped the ball so badly with the UDP-205 (and everyone knows it) that nobody is willing to pay the premium for their players anymore. Thus the bankruptcy. At least, that's my theory...
Whoever at Oppo voiced the UDP-205 killed the company all by themselves. They alienated their own customers by trying to provide fake detail that was (rightfully) perceived as glare.
So adios, Oppo - you went out of business the old-fashioned way - you earned it.

I was looking at the 4K upgrades for the home theater and the OPPO as the 4K player (have a 105D currently) Now, I am not so sure the upgrade to 4K is truly worth it as I pretty happy with my Blu-Ray quality in my Sony Projector. I am now thinking to just upgrade my XMC-1 with the ATMOS when available and add 4 height speakers and call it a day until the 4K projectors come down a bit more on price
