Short trip to nutsville for me! My Samsung HU 8550 65” periodicallshuts off for no apparent reason. Its been doing this for some time now but Ive had about enough! All my HT gear is listed except for the Cable box ( TiVo PS 001 DST ). It doesnot shut down, only the TV. Its happened with both the Yamaha on and off , Im pretty sure.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Look over the back of it. There are many tiny air holes. It doesn't take much for those to fill which could cause overheating.

Definitely sounds like a thermal issue. Do your best to clear any vents of dust and if there are cooling fans, make sure they work. If it is possible to remove the back of your TV them do so. I think you'll be amazed how much dust is up in there.

Txs guys, no active ARC or CEC.
Components are all controlled by a Harmony 700 remote

Make doubly sure CEC is turned off on the Samsung and all other components connected to it. Oh, and find that missing remote stuffed in the lounge somewhere, they cause all sorts of strange issues Cheers Gary

Lost/misplaced a remote and found it after almost a month of searching buried (and I do mean "buried") in the "dog couch". Dogs are allowed only on one piece of furniture - the "dog couch", they buried the remote deep in their couch. Think they enjoyed changing (intentionally ?) the channel once in a while on us too.

Do you have an automatic off timer set? I think the set may have an option where the set turns off after a certain amount of time when there has been no input commands received.

Thanks, but I’ve never set the timer. When I went through ALL of the settings again it was off. Never had a use for a timer on any of my tvs but its nice to know its there.

It could be your harmony. My Logitech Hartmony initially had a default setting that turned off and on the tv with many basic commands before implementing them. It was so weird. I had to figure out how to make it not do that.
Also if your tv is on a smart plug the smart plug may ahve lost wifi connection or have an intermitten connection whic hcauses it to "blink" causing your tv to shut off and not turn back on.

No smart plugs for any of my HT or two channel gear my friend. Thanks, its not a random remote signal either. Im putting money on a heat problem identified by a couple of our wonderful members here on the forum. Ill know for sure in the next day or two.

My 15 yr old Samsung started turning itself off about 10 yrs ago. I googled the symptoms and found a history of problems with undersized electrolytic capacitors, with part numbers. I took the back off, IDd the culprits, ordered two of the proper size and replaced them myself for less than $10. No problem since, which is unfortunate since I'd like a new TV but can't/won't replace the old one until it dies.

Thanks andyman , does a reset erase my picture calibration? I don’t think it did. BUT CHECK to make sure . I also unplugged the wifi module as I heard that was an issue too. The Lan connection still works fine . While I was in there I was looking for the 1000mf capacitors to replace as they are known to be an issue but this pc board did not have any. But as I said No issues and it’s probably a year now. Or maybe it did and they all looked fine.

Brown-out? Could it be that it turns off when a heavy load starts, i.e: air conditioner, dryer, electric oven, etc?
