So, is this an HDMI Compliance issue with the Mac Mini or the new XMC-1 V3 HDMI Board? Just curious. Casey While Lonnie has communicated that they are working on the Mac mini issue (which has also been duplicated on MacBooks), he hasn't mentioned anything specific that they’ve found. Which is to say ... I don’t know. The Mini worked and switched fine through the XMC-1 before I paid Emo to install the new board. Sad, but I live and die with Roon, so I paid the $$ to get the Nucleus. Works great.

Hhmmm, well I presume that ewiles has access to Mac Minis at work and should be able to reproduce the issues with them. Hopefully he's provided enough information to Lonnie and crew to diagnose/fix the issue ... or even identify the issue as a Mac Mini problem with a possible work around ... Casey Unfortunately I don't work on this product so I haven't seen this issue. Wish I had better news.

I hope the release of rmc will not be affected by the v3 board’s problems.

It will have it share of HDMI troubles no doubt, as that's just an area Emo always has struggled in. Don't expect it to be perfect, but in the end it will work well.

If it weren't for HDMI, I'd still be using my circa 1979 Sansui AU-717 integrated amp and JBL L110 speakers which was a great setup! And I'm not kidding, it's only due to HDMI that I stopped using that setup. I was happy with two channel TV sound because I was even more happy with two channel music!
Fast forward to now, I'm extremely happy with the Emotiva purchases I've made and especially happy with the XMC-1. The XMC-1 matches up well with my main amp, and I tried a bunch of other preamps that the Krell just didn't like at all. As long as the sound is awesome, like it is, and the 4K/HDR supplied to my projector is as awesome as it is, I'm "pleased as punch" as a 1960's Vice President used to say. Hmmmm, you don't hear the name Hubert much these days.

FWIW I finally got around to using MacBook Pro via Airplay to Apple TV4K that is connected to the XMC-1 via HDMI. Works as advertised! Works the same from the Mac Mini.
Now I can Share Screen of the Mac Mini using the MacBook Pro and initiate Airplay for video from the Mini and get the audio over Optical.
Thanks to Gary, AudioHTIT, mr, and others for hyping the Airplay thing. I never tried it this way before.

Ive never used it for video, but there’s also the Apple ‘Remote’ App that will let you control an iTunes library (running on your Mac) from an iOS device. I use it a lot when I’m outside listening to music. Glad you have a solution / workaround to the mini issue.

I only use it to update the music library and any other normal computer maintenance stuff. Regarding a remote app on my mobile devices, I use JRemote for JRiver Media Center. I find JRiver easier to live with because it doesn't "tell" me what to do, and it doesn't "know" what I like whether I like it or not.

My only inputs are my Amazon fire tv and Oppo 203 (both currently connected directly to my TV), could I expect a trouble free upgrade with the v3 board?

Sleep mode. Hello I just wanted to share my experience with my upgraded board and Apple TV. This is my primary way of watching tv since I cut cable and opted for Hulu. The issue was the I keep the XMC on Video Standby On and I would turn on my OLEDC7 and it would get audio but no video on the Appletv. I would switch inputs on the XMC such as the ones with the Oppo and switch back and sometimes it would fix the video with Appletv. Other times I would turn on the XMC and sometimes it would fix it and I would do any sort of troubleshooting that would not involve me getting up and toggling the switch on back of the XMC (which is a sure fix). I then figured out that if I turned on the oppo and switch inputs to it that it would wake up and then get picture and then if I switched back to the Appletv that I would then have picture. This was my fix and the way I started watching tv and getting it to work. I then discovered that if I pressed and buttons on the Appletv remote and then if i turn on the tv that it would work and get picture and sound! It is not rocket science but in retrospect it makes sense because the Appletv must go on some sort of standby mode when not in use and then the XMC loses the handshake since there is nothing there and it needs something to restore it. By me pressing a couple of buttons in the Appletv remote it restores it but there is a precise order to it. For some reason it doesn’t wake up if the tv is on. The tv has to be turned off and back on for it to work with my setup and configuration. Hopefully this will help someone in a similar situation.

What is the brand/model of your TV and is your Fire TV the newer 4K version...? The TV is a Sony 55in XBR-930D (4k , HDR, no DV), the fire stick is the previous big blocky one with the quad core processor. It has 4k, HDR and Ethernet built in. Then the OPPO 203.

Since no Dolby Vision on your Sony, I think you’d be fine using those sources.

I have very similar issues with my OLED C7 and Apple TV 4K. I often have no audio or no video on startup, bit I also occasionally get this when doing a mode switch between SDR and HDR (I have my ATV configured to match Range). I also have Video Standby turned On. I have a Harmony set to turn things on in this order - LG OLED C7 XMC-1 ATV 4K This has been working fine with the v2 HDMI board. With the v3 board it has problems. I haven't experimented much with any other order, but it may be worth a shot here.

The turn on order doesn't seem to make any difference. My ATV4K is set to 4KHDR 60 hz, chroma 4.2.2 with Match Range and Match Rate both on. That’s to a Samsung Series 6 UHD TV. Cheers Gary

I have found a quick solution for my ills with the XMC and these sort of issues... I.e. no video, no audio....
Just unplug and reinsert the hdmi of the device you switched to.... works every time....
Since my ROKU is easily accessible, it’s no bother for me. Actually in my setup I can get to all my hdmi cables. Beats rebooting!
I had a conversation with believe it was with Keith, and he explained that it all boils down to the loose hdmi specs... that’s why some people have no issues... their devices just happen to work!

Hello, after re-reading my post about sleep mode between ATV4 and XMC I realized that I needed to check the settings on ATV4 to see if there is a sleep option that might be the culprit of this issue. Well I turned on the C7 this morning and as usual there is no picture. I clicked on some buttons on the remote for ATV4 until I heard the tones that you hear as you switch apps and still not picture. I turned off the C7 and turned it back on and there is the picture. I went to settings of the ATV4 and I have sleep mode turned on after 15 minutes. Well, I turned this feature off and will check again tomorrow morning to see if this fixes the issue. I don’t recall having an issue with this prior to the upgrade and everything else remains the same with the configuration. Hopefully, if this fixes the issue this will help others who unplug their HDMI cords, Roku’s, or do other troubleshooting steps to fix their issue. This sleep mode feature may be why the majority of people aren’t having any issues. More to follow.

I have found a quick solution for my ills with the XMC and these sort of issues... I.e. no video, no audio.... just unplug and reinsert the hdmi of the device you switched to.... works every time.... Just be aware that hot plugging carries a slight risk of frying to the hdmi port due to the 5 volt being sent via tmds along your cable Frequency of this happening is the key so hope its sorted soon
